OTTAWA — The Ottawa Senators’ most recent first-round draft pick is joining the team’s playoff push.
Carter Yakemchuk’s agent, Vlad Shushkovsky and the Senators have confirmed to The Athletic that the defenceman will join the team and is expected to be in attendance for Game 3 of the Sens’ first-round series against the Toronto Maple Leafs. The 19-year-old was drafted seventh overall last summer by the Senators at the 2024 NHL Draft in Las Vegas. The Sens are expected to recall him to the active roster on Friday.

The Fort McMurray, Alta. native is a product of the Calgary Hitmen of the Western Hockey League. The Hitmen were eliminated from the WHL playoffs on Wednesday night after losing Game 7 of their second-round series against the Lethbridge Hurricanes.
Yakemchuk had 17 goals and 49 points in 56 games this season with Calgary this past regular season before adding two goals and seven points in 11 playoff games this spring. Yakemchuk scored 70 goals and 180 points in 245 career games with the Hitmen dating back to his rookie season in 2021-22.
The Senators will play Game 3 of their first-round series against the Toronto Maple Leafs Thursday night at the Canadian Tire Centre, hoping to erase a 2-0 series deficit.
