Thompson, jenž s Buffalem zahájil sezonu NHL duely v Praze proti New Jersey, má ve sbírce bronzy z mistrovství světa v letech 2018 a 2021. Medaili získal při obou startech v reprezentaci. V této sezoně NHL dali více branek jen Němec Leon Draisaitl z Edmontonu (52) a Švéd William Nylander z Toronta.
Beniers, dvojka draftu NHL z roku 2021, získal těsně před výběrem nováčků bronz na světovém šampionátu v Rize a o rok později se představil i na olympijských hrách v Pekingu. V kádru byl před čtyřmi roky také útočník Conor Garland z Vancouveru.
MS v hokeji 2025
88. ročník mistrovství světa v hokeji je na programu v termínu od 9. do 25. května 2025. Hostit jej bude Švédsko a Dánsko, konkrétně Stockholm a Herning. Ještě před tím od 23. dubna do 4. května se koná MS do 18 let v USA.
Účast z loňského mistrovství světa v Praze a Ostravě, kde Američané podlehli ve čtvrtfinále Česku 0:1, si zopakují obránci Michael Kesselring z Utahu a Alex Vlasic z Chicaga. Počtvrté se představí na MS zadák Brady Skjei z Nashvillu a potřetí útočník Clayton Keller z Utahu.
Premiéru v americké reprezentaci si odbudou brankáři Joey Daccord ze Seattlu a devatenáctiletý Hampton Slukynsky z Western Michigan University z NCAA, který se na přelomu rolu podílel na triumfu na juniorském mistrovství světa v Ottawě. Předloni si ho vybralo ve 4. kole draftu NHL na 118. místě Los Angeles. Debutovat budou také beci Jackson LaCombe z Anaheimu, Mason Lohrei z Bostonu a útočníci Logan Cooley z Utahu, Michael McCarron z Nashvillu a Frank Nazar z Chicaga.
Americký kádr sestavuje generální manažer Jeff Kealty s asistentem Brettem Petersonem. Jako hlavní kouč povede tým Ryan Warsofsky ze San Jose s asistenty Mikem Velluccim, Adamem Nightingalem a Kevinem Deanem.
Přípravu USA odstartují 2. května v Düsseldorfu a o dva dny později sehrají přípravný zápas s Německem. Do šampionátu vstoupí týden nato duelem s domácím Dánskem. V základní skupině B je čekají také Maďarsko, Švýcarsko, Norsko, Německo, Kazachstán a v úterý 20. května obhájce triumfu Česko.
