The Philadelphia Eagles have bolstered their front seven by selecting Alabama linebacker Jihaad Campbell with the No. 31 pick of the 2025 NFL Draft. Philadelphia acquired the selection in a pick swap with the Kansas City Chiefs for the No. 32 and No. 164 picks.
In his junior season, Campbell led the Crimson Tide in tackles (117) and sacks (five) en route to becoming a second-team All-American selection by the FWAA as well as earning All-SEC honors — a first-team selection by the coaches and a second-team selection from the Associated Press. He was also a semifinalist for both the Chuck Bednarik Award (given to the top defensive player in college football) and the Butkus Award (given to the top linebacker in college football).

Campbell had five games with at least 11 tackles, but his best game of the 2024 season came in a 42-13 win over LSU. In that contest, he had 12 tackles, 1.5 sacks and a forced fumble. Over three seasons at Alabama, his sideline-to-sideline speed showed through, as did his ability to rush the quarterback. The New Jersey native notched 184 tackles, 5.5 sacks, two interceptions, three fumble recoveries (with one returned for a touchdown) and two forced fumbles.
During Alabama’s bowl game against Michigan, Campbell left the contest with a left shoulder injury that later required surgery to repair a slight tear in his labrum. He was the highest-rated linebacker (and the only one in the top 37 players) in The Athletic draft expert Dane Brugler’s rankings.

Campbell ranked No. 14 in Dane Brugler’s top 300 big board. Here’s what Brugler had to say about him in his annual NFL Draft guide:
“With his size and length, Campbell is a good-looking athlete and has the sideline-to-sideline speed, lateral agility and short-area burst to outleverage and finish the ball carrier. He doesn’t always trust what he sees and tends to be inconsistent taking on blocks — those issues made him more effective outside the hashes on tape, where he didn’t have to sort (physically or mentally) through the muck. Overall, Campbell is an explosive, physical athlete with the developing instincts to impact the game as a run defender, cover man and blitzer from various angles and depths (some teams like him best as a full-time edge rusher).”

“That dude can fly. (Alabama) did not have really any of those special guys they normally had on defense under (Nick) Saban. But he was that one dude who popped on the film. He’s so active and so fluid. He made a ton of big plays for them. Sometimes, it’ll look like he gets lost out there, but he has such burst that he’ll end up making plays you figure he’s out of. Also thought he got pretty good in coverage last year.”
