The Dallas Cowboys have drafted East Carolina cornerback Shavon Revel Jr. with the No. 76 pick in the 2025 NFL Draft.
He is the first player drafted out of East Carolina since tackle D’Ante Smith in 2021, and the first defensive back from the school to be selected since Emmanuel McDaniel in 1996.
Revel has had an interesting journey to get to this point. Due to poor grades in high school, he went the junior college route and enrolled at Louisburg (N.C.) College in 2020 but did not play due to the COVID-19 pandemic. He only played in six games the following season before transferring to East Carolina, where he earned all-conference honors in 2023. He missed most of last season after he tore his ACL during practice.
Shavon Revel Jr. clocked out of a graveyard shift at Amazon to get to an East Carolina tryout.
He spurned major transfer offers to remain a Pirate. Now, he could hear his name called on the first two days of the draft.

‘The Beast’ breakdown
Revel was ranked No. 62 in Dane Brugler’s top 300 big board. Here’s what Brugler had to say about him in his annual NFL Draft guide:
“With his size, speed and physicality, Revel changed East Carolina’s approach on defense, because of his press-man skill set — he uses his length to disrupt routes and explosiveness to stay attached. Though he does a great job playing through the hands of receivers, he is guilty of grabbing and holding too much, especially in off coverage. That issue should continue to fade as he hones his technique in the NFL. Overall, his durability will be questioned, understandably, but Revel is a boundary bully with terrific speed, length and ball-tracking skills. He has the talent of an NFL starter.”
