The New York Giants selected Arizona State running back Cam Skattebo with the third pick of the fourth round, No. 105 overall, in the 2025 NFL Draft on Saturday afternoon.
Skattebo was the fourth pick of the 2025 draft for the Giants, who have now split their picks between offense and defense. New York beefed up its defensive front with the selection of Penn State edge rusher Abdul Carter at No. 3 overall and Toledo defensive tackle Darius Alexander at No. 65. On offense, the Giants moved back into the first round for Ole Miss quarterback Jaxson Dart before selecting Skattebo to kick off their Day 3.
The Skattebo pick made a lot of sense for the Giants on multiple fronts. First, we knew the Giants wanted to add to their running back room. They did a ton of work on mid-round running backs throughout the pre-draft process. Skattebo himself should serve as an ideal complement to what the Giants already have in the shifty Tyrone Tracy Jr.. The 5-10, 216-pound Skattebo is a bruising runner who also has receiving upside.
‘The Beast’ breakdown
Skattebo ranked No. 112 on Dane Brugler’s top 300 big board. Here’s what Brugler had to say about him in his annual NFL Draft guide:
“A three-year starter at Ole Miss, Dart thrived in offensive coordinator Charlie Weis Jr.’s spread RPO, heavy play-action scheme (No. 1 in passing EPA per dropback in 2024). After transferring out of USC once Caleb Williams arrived, he found a home with Kiffin and left Oxford with numerous single-season and career records, including the Rebels’ all-time lead in wins (28), passing yards (10,617) and total offense (12,117).

“With his physical tools and rhythm passing, he was an ideal fit in Kiffin’s quarterback-friendly offense, although the simplistic nature of the scheme leaves NFL scouts questioning his post-snap decision-making process when reads aren’t as structured and predetermined. The other key concern is his tendency to prematurely drop his eyes once the pocket gets heated. However, his athleticism to buy time and scramble for positive yards is an asset. Overall, Dart needs time to develop his progression-based reads and anticipation (things he wasn’t asked to regularly do in college), but he is a natural thrower of the football with promising mobility and high-level competitive intangibles. If allowed to develop at his own pace, he offers NFL starting upside in the right situation.”
Scott Dochterman’s analysis
Get ready for a ton of Skattebo jerseys sold in the tristate area. Skattebo (5-9 ½, 219) became America’s favorite running back last year after leading Arizona State to the Big 12 title and a College Football Playoff berth. He rushed for 1,711 yards and 21 touchdowns and also caught 45 passes for 605 yards and three scores.
Skattebo’s CFP quarterfinal performance against Texas goes down as one of the greatest in college football history. Trailing by 16 points with 6:31 left, Skattebo threw a 42-yard touchdown pass. He later rushed for a touchdown and a two-point conversion to force overtime, then scored again in the extra frame. Skattebo ran 30 times for 143 yards and caught eight passes for 99 yards plus his touchdown pass.
There’s nothing better than @dpbrugler‘s “The Beast.” Where else would you learn that Cam Skattebo rushed for 393 yards in the state championship game of his junior year of high school.

How he fits
The Giants decided to take advantage of this deep RB class, even after investing a fifth-rounder in Tracy last year. New York is still remodeling its running back room after letting Saquon Barkley walk in free agency last offseason. Now there’s a clear youth movement in the position room. Skattebo adds another offensive playmaker to a room that still needs some, especially after the defense had primarily been the focus of the team’s upgrades this offseason. For a team that needs to win now, Skattebo should be able to make an immediate impact.

Depth-chart impact
Skattebo will be a physical complement to Tracy, adding a different dimension to the group. Skattebo “competes with tremendous resolve and understands how to rely on his pad level and contact balance to get the most out of every carry,” Brugler wrote earlier this. offseason, While the Giants also have veteran Devin Singletary on the roster, Tracy overtook him for carries last season. Now, Skattebo and Tracy can provide different elements to the Giants offense.
They also could have picked …
The Giants heavily invested in their defensive on Days 1 and 2, leaving room to turn to the offense on Day 3. The offensive line, with Marcus Mbow and Jalen Rivers still available, felt like a possible fit at No. 105 after trading away their No. 99 pick. But the Giants went with a playmaker.
Fast evaluation
Thinking about needs and potential fit, this pick is easy to like. They got a guy who will add juice to the offense but shouldn’t be a repetitive running back to the talent already there.
