The Baltimore Ravens have added to a pass rush that finished with the second-most sacks in the league in 2024, selecting Marshall edge rusher Mike Green with the No. 59 overall pick in the second round of the 2025 NFL Draft.
A one-year starter at Marshall, the 21-year-old transferred from the University of Virginia in 2023. After showing flashes in his junior year, Green ascended to a full-time starter in 2024.

Green finished the season leading the FBS in sacks (17), tackles by a defensive lineman (84) and sack yardage (144 — 42 yards more than No. 2 on the list). He also tacked on 22 1/2 tackles for loss, three forced fumbles and two passes defended in 13 games. The massive season helped Green earn first-team All-American honors as well as the Sun Belt Conference’s Defensive Player of the Year award.
NFL teams have put Green’s background under a microscope. Green has faced two sexual assault allegations, one in high school and one at Virginia that led to a suspension from the team and his decision to transfer from the school. Neither case led to charges, and he has denied all wrongdoing. He also received strong character references from coaches at Virginia and Marshall, according to Dane Brugler.
‘The Beast’ breakdown
Green ranked No. 10 in Brugler’s top 300 big board. Here’s what Brugler had to say about him in his annual NFL Draft guide:
“A high-activity pass rusher, Green explodes off the ball to win in multiple ways, showing bend, speed and the acceleration force to work through contact. Despite his lack of elite body length, his rush-move arsenal expanded as the 2023 season progressed, and he learned how to be effective against frequent chips by running backs and tight ends. He went into the 2024 season focused on developing against the run — that paid off in a major way, as he showed an improved stack and shed and better overall gap awareness. Overall, Green is a twitchy athlete with the burst and body control to win one-on-one as a pass rusher and set a violent edge in the run game. As long as his character checks out, he is one of the top pass-rush prospects in the draft class, with the disruptive ability to be an NFL starter.”
Coaching intel
What an anonymous coach had to say about Green in Bruce Feldman’s mock draft:
“When you watched the tape, we’d bring him up a lot. What is this guy doing at Marshall? I thought he was a real guy. He had some shake to him and some edge. Really good with his hands, is twitchy, and he knows what he is. He used his speed, and then he’d go speed-counter, and then he could go speed to power. He is a natural edge guy and natural pass rusher.”
