The Pittsburgh Steelers selected Ohio State quarterback Will Howard with the No. 185 pick in the sixth round of the 2025 NFL Draft. The 6-foot-4 signal-caller joins a room that currently includes only veterans Mason Rudolph and Skylar Thompson.
Howard led the Buckeyes to the College Football Playoff national championship in January, where he was the game’s offensive MVP. In his team’s 34-23 win against Notre Dame, Howard set championship game records for most consecutive completions (13) and passer rating (204.8).

The 23-year-old Howard spent his first four college seasons at Kansas State. In 2022, Howard and the Wildcats won the Big 12 championship game against eventual national runner-up TCU, and in 2023, Howard tied the program’s single-season record with 24 passing touchdowns. Born in West Chester, Pa., Howard started 44 games in his 50-game collegiate career between the two schools and finished with a 30-14 record.
His most productive season was his final one at Ohio State, when he passed for 4,010 yards with a 73.1 percent completion rate (second nationally) and a 35-to-10 TD-to-INT ratio.
‘The Beast’ breakdown
Howard ranked No. 135 in Dane Brugler’s top 300 big board. Here’s what Brugler had to say about him in his annual NFL Draft guide:
“A well-built athlete, Howard sets up quickly and throws well enough to all levels, doing some of his best work on designed rollouts and waggles to move his launch point. His aggressiveness as a passer will bite him at times, especially when he locks onto his preferred read — his ability to quickly get deeper into progressions will be crucial at the next level. Overall, Howard has a couple of plays on each tape that make evaluators question if his decision-making and placement are consistent enough for him to be an NFL starter. But he has the physical requirements, intelligence and mental resiliency to stick as a backup and potential spot-starter.”
Will Howard is ready to take his championship pedigree to the next level. Where will he land? 👀
