Hlavní problém tkví v tom, že dálnice A1, vedoucí kolem BayAreny, se od roku 2031 začne rozšiřovat směrem ke stadionu. Nová silnice zasáhne stávající tréninkové plochy, parkoviště i příjezdové cesty. Bez těchto kapacit stadion nemůže nadále fungovat.
Nebo může, ale vedení bundesligy bez patřičného počtu parkovacích míst neudělí klubu licenci.
Naděje spočívá v řepkovém poli u města Monheim, asi 8,5 kilometru od BayAreny. Právě tam má vyrůst nové luxusní tréninkové centrum za více než 120 milionů eur.

Plány jsou velkolepé: přes dvanáct hřišť, moderní zázemí a prostory pro více než 450 zaměstnanců.
Času je ale málo.
„Nové tréninkové centrum je nejdůležitější strategický projekt pro celý klub,“ zdůraznil pro Bild ředitel klubu Fernando Carro.
Řepkové pole je poslední dostupnou lokalitou v blízkosti stadionu.
„Za posledních deset let jsme prověřili více než sedmdesát míst. Tohle je naše poslední šance,“ připomněl Carro a dodal: „Stavět v Německu je opravdu velmi náročné.“
Pokud Leverkusen nezačne stavět do roku 2027, může klub čelit vážným problémům. Bez vyřešení nové infrastruktury by mu hrozilo odebrání profesionální licence – a tím i konec mezi bundesligovou elitou.
