Knapp vier Monate nach seinem Aus beim DSV Leoben hat Carsten Jancker (50) einen neuen Job. Der ehemalige Stürmer des FC Bayern übernimmt für Peter Pacult bei Austria Klagenfurt.
Jancker, der am Sonntag vorgestellt wurde: „Ich habe den nötigen Respekt vor dieser Aufgabe, freue mich aber auch riesig darauf und bin stolz, dass mir die Verantwortlichen der Austria Klagenfurt in dieser herausfordernden Phase ihr Vertrauen schenken.“
Das Team war zuletzt fünf Spiele in Folge ohne Sieg geblieben, vier Partien davon gingen verloren. In der Bundesliga gab’s für den Klub in dieser Saison überhaupt nur sechs Siege in 28 Spielen.

Sie haben schon bewiesen, dass sie die Qualität haben. Es gilt, mit Leidenschaft und Mut aufzutreten. Dann werden wir es schaffen.“ Der Vertrag des Ex-Stürmers läuft erst einmal bis Saisonende.
Kurios: Jancker wird vom Sponsor bezahlt! Sponsor Helmut Kaltenegger gegenüber der österreichischen Zeitung „Krone“: „Es war mein Wunsch und Vorschlag, dass Carsten es wird – aber keine Bedingung. Ich werde dem Besitzer eines Klubs nicht sagen, was er zu tun hat. Es ging ganz schnell – die Austria hat mich kontaktiert und gebeten, Carsten zu fragen, ob er sofort bereit wäre.“

Und: „Ja, Carsten steht bei der TGI AG unter Vertrag, wird von uns bezahlt, kostet die Austria daher nicht viel.“ Janckers Debüt steht an diesem Freitag (19.30 Uhr) beim Grazer AK an.
Jancker war bis Januar Trainer vom DSV Leoben, wegen finanzieller Probleme hörte er dort auf. Als Spieler lief er unter anderem Köln, Rapid Wien, Kaiserslautern und den FC Bayern auf. Mit den Münchnern wurde er Meister, gewann die Champions League und den Weltpokal, dazu absolvierte er 33 Länderspiele für Deutschland.
