A organização do Masters 1000 de Madri anunciou, nesta segunda-feira, o cancelamento de todas as partidas restantes do dia devido ao apagão geral que afetou os moradores de Portugal e Espanha. Os jogos estavam suspensos desde o momento em que a falha elétrica ocorreu.
“Por motivos alheios à organização e para garantir a segurança, o apagão geral que afetou a Espanha nesta segunda-feira, 28 de abril, obriga a suspensão tanto da sessão diurna quanto da noturna no torneio de Madri”, anunciou a organização na rede social.
Apenas três jogadores na categoria individual (Mirra Andreeva, Coco Gauff e Matteo Arnaldi) conseguiram avançar de fase nesta segunda-feira após conseguirem concluir seus jogos apesar do incidente.
Entre as partidas programadas para segunda-feira e adiadas para o dia seguinte, destacam-se especialmente as oitavas de final das números 1 e 2 do mundo, a bielorrussa Aryna Sabalenka e a polonesa Iga Swiatek, que deveriam enfrentar, respectivamente, a norte-americana Peyton Stearns (N.44) e a russa Diana Shnaider (N.13).
A concessionária espanhola Red Elétrica confirmou a falha no país e a operadora de energia de Portugal afirma que o apagão atinge “toda a Península Ibérica”, parte da França e Alemanha. Linhas telefônicas e semáforos foram afetados e, nos aeroportos, os embarques estão sendo feitos “à moda antiga” e o check-in de forma manual.
