After a standout first season with the Chicago Sky, Angel Reese is already stepping into a mentorship role as she prepares to guide a familiar face – Hailey Van Lith – through her own transition into the WNBA.
Reese made an immediate impact during her rookie campaign after being selected No. 7 overall in the 2024 WNBA Draft. Despite occasional struggles with offensive efficiency – finishing the season shooting 39.1 percent – she quickly became a dominant presence on the court.

She led the league with 13.1 rebounds per game and proved herself a consistent double-double threat. Her remarkable season culminated with an All-Star selection and a second-place finish behind Caitlin Clark in the Rookie of the Year voting.
“I know a lot of pressure is probably on here from the outside,” Reese said Monday about her new teammate Van Lith. “I know how it is just being the big name coming to town expected to do big things. … Just being that ‘big sister’ I guess kind of to her this year is super important for her.”

The Sky selected Hailey Van Lith with the No. 11 overall pick of the 2025 WNBA Draft. Van Lith brings with her an impressive collegiate résumé, having played for powerhouse programs Louisville, LSU, and TCU. During her time at LSU, she shared the court with Reese as they helped the Tigers reach the Elite Eight in the 2023-24 season.
The reunion between Reese and Van Lith at the professional level is something both players are clearly excited about. Reflecting on their connection, Van Lith expressed her enthusiasm about joining forces again with Reese.
“Mostly, I’m just excited to get to be around her again. I think we have a lot of similarities on how we carry ourselves and our mindset on what’s important to us,” Van Lith said when speaking to reporters.
“And she’s a dog, man. She turns up the intensity of everybody around her, so I’m excited to be in that environment again where she can pull more out of me than I think I have.”
