Justin Blackmon, a former star wide receiver for the Jacksonville Jaguars, found himself in legal trouble earlier this month after being arrested for public intoxication on the campus of Oklahoma State University. The incident, which occurred in the early hours of April 19, was captured on body camera footage obtained by TMZ Sports.
The footage shows Blackmon, 35, being stopped by an OSU police officer for allegedly wandering the campus while intoxicated. During their interaction, which lasted roughly 15 minutes, the conversation briefly veered from the arrest to football. Blackmon mentioned his tenure at OSU in 2011, which led the officer to ask if he had played under coach Mike Gundy. Blackmon, seemingly confused, was then reminded of Les Miles‘ brief stint as OSU’s head coach.

Despite the lighthearted detour into football history, Blackmon’s behavior during the interaction was indicative of his inebriated state. He slurred his words, appeared unsteady on his feet, and was unable to provide a clear address when repeatedly questioned by the officer. At one point, he insisted he had done nothing wrong, though the officer clarified he was being arrested for public intoxication.
It was an awkward situation for him
The former fifth overall pick in the 2012 NFL Draft was wearing wet clothing during the encounter and appeared to drift in and out of sleep while being transported to jail. He was booked on one criminal charge and released after posting bond a short time later.
Blackmon’s arrest adds to a history of substance-related issues that have plagued his life and career. A two-time Biletnikoff Award winner during his college days, Blackmon’s promising NFL trajectory was derailed by multiple violations of the league’s substance abuse policy.
Suspended indefinitely by the NFL in 2013, Blackmon has largely remained out of the public eye since leaving professional football. This latest incident has reignited discussions about the former athlete’s personal struggles and what steps might be necessary for him to address them moving forward.
