A menos de dois meses do Mundial de Clubes, o Boca Juniors, da Argentina, demitiu o técnico Fernando Gago, que estava no clube desde outubro do ano passado. O anúncio foi feito, nesta terça-feira, pelo ex-jogador Mauricio Serna, atual diretor do time argentino.
— Temos o prazer de informar que tomamos uma decisão. Fernando Gago e sua comissão técnica chegaram até aqui. Não foi fácil, pois ele é um jogador da casa. Ontem, até altas horas da noite, buscamos e encontramos uma maneira de garantir que Gago não seja mais nosso treinador — informou Mauricio Serna à imprensa argentina.
O estopim para a demissão de Fernando Gago foi a derrota para o River Plate por 2 a 1 no clássico disputado no último domingo. Além disso, também pesou a eliminação em casa para o Allianza Lima na segunda fase da Pré-Libertadores.
Segundo TyC Sports, a diretoria perdeu a confiança no treinador e não acredita mais que haja uma maneira de reverter a situação, apesar dos bons números de Gago. Ao todo, o treinador comandou o Boca Juniors em 30 partidas, com 17 vitórias, seis empates e sete derrotas — um aproveitamento de 63,3%.
Agora, o Boca Juniors terá que correr contra o tempo para contratar um treinador que chegue e introduza suas ideias antes do Mundial de Clubes da Fifa. O time argentino está no grupo C do torneio, ao lado de Auckland City, Nova Zelândia, Bayern de Munique, da Alemanha, e Benfica, de Portugal.
