Při britském pohárovém zápase mezi Sheffieldem a Nottinghamem došlo ke střetu Johnsona s Petgravem, přičemž levá brusle druhého jmenovaného vystřelila vzhůru a prořízla Johnsonovi tepnu na krku. Druhý den pak přišla zpráva, že Američan zemřel. Petgrave byl zatčen kvůli podezření z neúmyslného zabití a následně byl propuštěn na kauci.
„Jednalo se o šokující a hluboce rozrušující incident,“ dodal Quinn s tím že vyšetřování zákroku obránce Sheffieldu, který v sezoně 2021/22 krátce oblékal i dres Pardubic, bylo důkladné a prokuratura provedla „komplexní přezkum všech důkazů“.
