Favorizovaní Lvi měli po dvou porážkách v dlouhých zápasech nůž na krku. Do třetího utkání v zaplněné UNYP Aréně vlétli s velkou energií a odskočili na tříbodový rozdíl, jenže pak hodně kazili servis a náskok už nenavyšovali. Naopak při podání hostujícího blokaře Petra Špuláka byli v několika výměnách nedůrazní a Karlovarsko otočilo na 15:12. Hosté si náskok udržovali a za stavu 24:22 měli dva setboly, jenže ani jeden nevyužili a v závěru kralovala domácí obrana.
Trenér Karlovarska Stefano Mascia to v rozhovoru pro Českou televizi označil za klíčový moment zápasu. „Po tom prvním setu se všechno změnilo. Ztratili jsme sebevědomí. Promarnili jsme šanci v prvním setu a pak bylo těžké se vrátit,“ řekl.
Ve druhé sadě Lvi odskočili na 14:11 a pak už ji kontrolovali. Ve třetím setu sice domácí po několika nedorozuměních v poli prohrávali 15:18, ale rychle srovnali krok a v koncovce byli silnější. Při jejich druhém mečbolu zkazil Špulák podání, které směřoval k postranní čáře.
Nejlepším hráčem zápasu byl vyhlášen domácí smečař Jakub Ihnát, jenž zaznamenal 15 bodů. „Finálové zápasy rozhodují detaily. Myslím, že dnes jsme lépe útočili. To by mohl být klíč i nadále,“ komentoval slovenský smečař dnešní utkání. Ocenil atmosféru v obou finálových halách. Situace, kdy už si nemohou dovolit zaváhání, podle něj Lvům možná paradoxně vyhovuje. „Sice je na nás velký tlak, ale možná o to uvolněněji můžeme hrát, protože už nemáme co ztratit,“ dodal Ihnát. Ještě o jeden bod více než on nastřádal jeho spoluhráč David Kollátor, jenž byl nejproduktivnějším hráčem utkání.
Kapitán Karlovarska Daniel Pfeffer označil dnešní zápas za smolný. „Ukončení té série je vždycky těžké, krásně se to ukázalo. My jsme prohospodařili velké šance v prvním setu a pak se to s námi táhlo celý zápas. Nedohrávali jsme bodové situace, útočně jsme se trápili. Byli jsme horší na útoku, zbytečně ustrašenější. Pro nás se nic nemění, jedeme dál a zkusíme navázat na tu vítěznou vlnu doma,“ řekl v nahrávce pro média.
Aby Karlovarsko v pátek na domácí palubovce využilo další finálový mečbol, musejí se podle něj volejbalisté západočeského týmu uvolnit. „Někteří hráči si to musejí v hlavě malinko uvolnit, že se vlastně nic neděje, že je to pořád jenom volejbal a že žádná krizová situace není smrtelně nebezpečná,“ dodal Pfeffer.
