Preferência do Vasco por Diniz mostra que Pedrinho busca time que jogue para frente, com ajuda de reforços na próxima janela

Depois de “esticar a corda” sem sucesso com Fábio Carille, demitido após a derrota por 1 a 0 para o Cruzeiro no último domingo, pelo Campeonato Brasileiro, o Vasco tem Fernando Diniz como plano A para assumir o comando à beira do campo e iniciou ontem os primeiros contatos para a contratação do treinador. Fã do trabalho de Diniz, o presidente Pedrinho entende que precisa de um nome já testado no futebol brasileiro e com capacidade de extrair do atual elenco um futebol mais ofensivo e dominante, o que foge ao perfil do antecessor — enquanto isso, o diretor técnico Felipe Loureiro será o interino.

Sem clube desde que foi demitido do Cruzeiro em janeiro deste ano, Diniz vê com bons olhos o retorno ao Vasco sob a administração de Pedrinho. Porém, precisaria ceder na parte financeira para chegar a um acordo com o cruz-maltino.

Durante as buscas por um técnico no fim da temporada passada, Pedrinho já havia admitido a dificuldade de conseguir um nome que considerasse ideal em razão das atuais limitações financeiras do clube.

— Difícil encontrar, dentro do que penso de futebol, o que temos no mercado e o que cabe dentro do orçamento. Não sei se vou encontrar um treinador que jogue do jeito que imagino que o Vasco mereça jogar e que caiba dentro do orçamento. Temos alguns perfis e torcemos para que tudo encaixe e seja o mais próximo do que pensamos.

O tom pessimista do dirigente na época é mais um indicativo de que a escolha por Carille, conhecido por montar equipes mais defensivas, estava longe de ser a preferida.

A prioridade por Diniz deixa clara a mudança de rota para uma equipe que jogue para frente. E, para sustentar esse estilo de jogo, a diretoria pretende reforçar o elenco na próxima janela de transferências. Para que isso seja possível, o clube se apega a certo respiro financeiro com o andamento da recuperação judicial, deferida pela Justiça do Rio de Janeiro em fevereiro deste ano, já que isso possibilitaria “enxugar dívidas” e passar mais credibilidade ao mercado.

Esse fôlego financeiro pode ajudar justamente o clube a chegar a valores mais próximos da realidade de Diniz e de sua comissão técnica, que, desde a época de Fluminense, têm ganhos no patamar de R$ 1 milhão por mês, mais que o dobro do que recebia Carille no cruz-maltino.

Convencê-lo sobre a possibilidade de trazer reforços no meio do ano também deverá ajudar nas negociações. Já a liminar que afastou a 777 Partners do controle da SAF, hoje sob o comando do clube associativo, pode ser uma barreira na escolha do novo técnico, por gerar uma insegurança jurídica no futebol do clube. Isso porque Diniz deposita a confiança em um possível acerto na figura de Pedrinho, que perderia força nos bastidores com uma improvável reviravolta no caso.

Outros treinadores que figuraram nessa “lista ideal” foram o português Luís Castro, ex-Botafogo, e até Tite, que ficou perto de fechar com o Corinthians, mas anunciou recentemente uma pausa na carreira para cuidar da saúde mental. Já o argentino Ramón Díaz, que deixou o time paulista, está inicialmente descartado pelo fato de ter saído de forma conturbada do Vasco no ano passado, com direito a ação na Justiça. Outro lusitano que está no mercado é Pedro Caixinha, demitido do Santos. A diretoria cruz-maltina chegou a conversar com o treinador e houve boa impressão mútua, mas, neste momento, ele deve avaliar novos convites do Brasil com mais cautela. À frente dessa corrida, Diniz costuma carregar “amor e ódio” dos torcedores, mas dificilmente passa batido à beira do campo. Não foi diferente com os vascaínos. Caso tome o destino de São Januário, Diniz comandará a equipe pela segunda vez. Em 2021, esteve à frente em apenas 12 jogos, com quatro vitórias, três empates e cinco derrotas na disputa da Série B, na qual o clube não conseguiu o acesso.

Seu melhor trabalho foi pelo Fluminense de 2022 a 2024, com o título da Libertadores e do Carioca em 2023 e da Recopa no ano seguinte. Nesse período, chegou ao comando interino da seleção brasileira, onde não deixou saudades, com apenas seis jogos (duas vitórias, um empate e três derrotas). Pelo Cruzeiro, chegou à final da Sul-Americana de 2024, porém, não resistiu ao mau início do Campeonato Mineiro deste ano.

— Ele (Diniz) é um treinador que escolheu poucos jogadores ao longo da carreira e trabalhou geralmente com aquilo que tinha à disposição. Em muitos casos, conseguiu melhorar o desempenho dos jogadores, o que não se repetiu em outros lugares. Como gosta de ter a bola por mais tempo, a partir da linha de defesa, o Vasco tem, pelo menos, zagueiros corajosos para tentar jogar dessa forma. Os volantes podem sofrer com isso, o que, por outro lado, seria bom para jogadores como Philippe Coutinho — destaca Rodrigo Coutinho, comentarista do Grupo Globo.

Por conta do “estilo de jogo extremamente peculiar”, Coutinho desacredita que Diniz possa absorver pontos deixados por Carille, já que “começaria o trabalho do zero”.
