Ein zwei Meter großer, aus Kiefernholz geschnitzter Eisbär begleitete den DEL-Rekordmeister aus Berlin auf dem Weg zum elften Titel. Er stand in der Kabine gleich neben der Taktiktafel, auf den Schultern trägt er den Schläger des am 29. Januar an Krebs gestorbenen Tobias Eder († 26). Neben ihm stehen zwei Holzpfähle mit zwölf Fächern. Nach jedem Play-off-Sieg wurde ein Fach mit einem Puck gefüllt. Auf dem zwölften und letzten Puck, der den Titelgewinn symbolisiert, klebt ein Foto von Eder, wie er den Meisterpokal hochhält – aus dem Jahr zuvor.

Das Gewinnen sind die Eisbären Berlin gewohnt. Doch noch nie war ein Titel so emotional wie dieser. Die Zeremonie nach dem 7:0 im fünften Finalspiel gegen die Kölner Haie geriet zu einer großen Gedenkfeier. Der goldene Konfetti-Regen legte sich nicht nur auf das Eis und die verschwitzten Trikots, sondern auch auf die verwundeten Seelen. Während sich die anderen Spieler in den Armen lagen und die Bierduschen eröffneten, schnappten sich Blaine Byron (30) und Adam Smith (28) den Meisterpokal und stellten ihn vor der Fantribüne ab. Da­rüber legten sie Eders Trikot mit der Nummer 22.

Dann trat Eders Verlobte Ina neben den Pokal. Mit Tränen in den Augen stand sie da, dann nahmen sie die Berliner Spieler in den Arm.

„Ich bin mir sicher: Tobi hat von oben zugeschaut“, sagt Stürmer Lean Bergmann (26). „Tobi war mit dabei. Er wird immer ein Teil von uns sein“, sagt Kapitän Kai Wissmann (28).

[–>„In so einer Situation wie dieser gibt es zwei Möglichkeiten“, sagt Eisbären-Geschäftsführer Thomas Bothstede. „Entweder du zerbrichst daran, oder du rückst noch enger zusammen.“

Die Eisbären wählten den zweiten Weg. „Wir haben uns in Momenten tiefster Trauer gesehen, so etwas schweißt zusammen“, sagt Wissmann. „Wir haben sichergestellt, dass keiner allein ist, wir waren füreinander da. So, wie man das in der Familie macht – und wir sind zu einer großen Familie geworden.“

Zwei Tage vor Eders Tod – er lag im Koma – kamen alle Spieler, Trainer und Geschäftsstellenmitarbeiter zum Abschiednehmen ins Berliner Charité-Krankenhaus. „Es sind unfassbar viele Tränen geflossen, aber wir haben uns umarmt und gegenseitig Halt gegeben“, erzählt Bothstede. Auch die Verbindung zu Eders Familie und seiner Verlobten wurde noch enger. Gemeinsam beschloss man, eine Tobi-Eder-Fankollektion zu entwerfen, deren Erlöse der Wohltätigkeitsorganisation „Cancel Cancer“ (Stopp Krebs) zugutekommen.

Von Anfang an bewahrten die Eisbären offensiv das Andenken an Eder. In der Kabine hingen vier Trikots von ihm, zum Aufwärmen vor den Spielen trugen alle Eisbären-Spieler Eder-Trikots. Die Trainer und Offiziellen steckten sich Badges mit der Nummer 22 ans Revers. Auch unter dem Meisterpokal klebt ein Eisbären-Logo mit der 22. Bei der Mannschaftsvorstellung wurde auch der Name von Tobi Eder aufgerufen. Die Fans feierten Eder, indem sie in jedem Spiel ab der 22. Minute Tobi-Eder-Gesänge anstimmten.

Der Leistung tat das alles keinen Abbruch. Nach Eders Tod gewannen die Eisbären am Ende der regulären Saison neun von zwölf Spielen und sicherten sich hinter Ingolstadt Platz zwei. Vor den Play-offs sagte Sportdirektor Stéphane Richer der Mannschaft: „Egal, was jetzt passiert, ich bin stolz auf euch. Das wird auch so sein, wenn ihr jetzt jedes Spiel verliert.“

Doch die Eisbären marschierten mit einer noch nie dagewesenen Dominanz zum Meistertitel. Im Halbfinale fertigten sie Mannheim in vier Spielen ab, das Finale gegen Köln gewannen sie in der Addition der fünf Spiele mit 27:3 Toren. Am Ende gab es dreimal in Folge ein 7:0. Auch als die Eisbären die Spiele längst für sich entschieden hatten, rannten sie weiter an und warfen sich hemmungslos in die Zweikämpfe.

„Tobi hätte gewollt, dass wir weiter Gas geben und gut Eishockey spielen“, sagt Leo Pföderl (31). So dürfte es auch in der nächsten Saison weitergehen. Dann wird auch eine offizielle Tobi-Eder-Gedenktafel an der Arena montiert sein. „Wir sind noch lange nicht satt und wollen weiter gewinnen. Das ist wie eine Sucht für uns“, sagt Wissmann, der sich im zweiten Finalspiel die Hand brach und für die WM (ab 9. Mai) ausfällt.

Die Mannschaft bleibt zusammen, auch Topstürmer Ty Ronning (27) verlängerte bis 2027. Und als Neuzugang kommt aus München Andreas Eder (29), der Bruder des verstorbenen Tobias Eder. Die Eisbären-Familie hält weiter zusammen.
