As tensions between the British royal family and the Duke and Duchess of Sussex continue to simmer, a new controversy involving Meghan Markle‘s use of her HRH title may be pushing Prince William to a breaking point.
According to reports, the Prince of Wales is furious over what he views as a blatant breach of royal protocol and he’s reportedly preparing to take action once he ascends the throne.
She was there for it! Meghan Markle blasted for looking thrilled to see paparazzi
“Charles might be happy to put up with this, but William won’t,” a royal insider told the Daily Beast, referencing Meghan‘s use of her HRH (Her Royal Highness) title on products associated with her lifestyle brand, As Ever, including a high-end jar of strawberry jam.
The source didn’t hold back when describing Prince William‘s alleged feelings toward his estranged brother and sister-in-law.
“He loathes and despises Harry and Meghan with every bone in his body, he believes they have betrayed everything the family stands for and the idea that they are using their royal status as a calling card will enrage him.”
The uproar stems from Markle‘s appearance on a podcast hosted by Jamie Kern Lima, where she sent a gift basket containing “homemade strawberry sauce” signed with a note that read: “With the Compliments of HRH The Duchess of Sussex.” The basket and note were later featured in the podcast’s footage, triggering backlash.
Royal insiders allege violation of Queen Elizabeth’s agreement
Critics argue that Markle‘s use of her royal styling-however subtle-violates the terms agreed upon during the couple’s 2020 royal exit. A former courtier told the Daily Beast that Markle‘s defense was “rubbish,” insisting the couple had agreed not to use the HRH titles “at all, ever, in any capacity.”
The official palace statement from that time appears to support that claim.
“With The Queen’s blessing, the Sussexes will continue to maintain their private patronages and associations,” the 2020 statement reads. “While they can no longer formally represent The Queen, the Sussexes have made clear that everything they do will continue to uphold the values of Her Majesty. The Sussexes will not use their HRH titles as they are no longer working members of the Royal Family.”
Still, a source close to Markle denied any wrongdoing.
“Harry and Meghan retain their HRH titles; however, by agreement, they do not use them for commercial purposes,” the source said. “While they do not publicly use ‘HRH,’ this was a personal gift, and their titles remain.”
