NFL icon Tom Brady has reportedly dismissed recent allegations from sports analyst Skip Bayless, calling him “an idiot” for suggesting Brady played a role in Shedeur Sanders‘ unexpected drop in the 2025 NFL Draft. The controversy began when Bayless claimed on social media that Brady, who mentored Sanders, advised the Las Vegas Raiders to pass on the young quarterback, a move Bayless insinuated contributed to Sanders’ fall to the fifth round.
Bayless tweeted, “It is now pretty clear Tom Brady, who mentored Shedeur, told the Raiders NOT to take Shedeur. Duly noted.” The Raiders, a team in which Brady holds a minority ownership stake, passed on Sanders multiple times before selecting running back Ashton Jeanty in the first round and quarterback Cam Miller in the sixth round. Sanders, once touted as a potential first-round pick, was ultimately drafted by the Cleveland Browns at No. 144 overall.

Sources close to Brady have strongly denied Bayless’ claims, clarifying that while Brady’s advice may be considered in such decisions, the final say rests with Raiders head coach Pete Carroll and owner Mark Davis. “Will they talk to Tom for his advice? Absolutely,” an insider told The Daily Mail. “But Tom had no sway on getting Shedeur or staying away from him.”
An unfortunate fall
Sanders’ fall in the draft has been attributed more to pre-draft issues, including reportedly subpar interviews with teams, rather than any behind-the-scenes influence. ESPN analyst Todd McShay previously reported that Sanders struggled during his meeting with the New York Giants, where head coach Brian Daboll questioned his preparedness.
Brady, who rarely engages in public spats, is said to be offended by Bayless’ comments, feeling they unfairly place blame on him for a situation unrelated to his limited role with the Raiders. Meanwhile, the controversy has drawn attention to the pressures and politics surrounding NFL Draft decisions, with Shedeur Sanders’ journey continuing under the microscope as he begins his career with the Cleveland Browns.
After all this situation, it seems that some controversy has been looming around the subject and of course some tense moments will show if and when Tom Brady ends up on the sports commentator’s show in the future, considering they both share the same career now.
