‘An awesome Robin’: Kon Knueppel helped Cooper Flagg — and made this Duke team one of the best we’ve ever seen

CBS Sports Graphic (Getty Images) "Some food, a gun and Kon Knueppel."Before last week's Sweet 16 game against Arizona, Duke grad transfer Neal Begovich toured the locker room, microphone in hand, and conducted mock interviews as a means of content creation for the team's in-house media enterprise. He playfully harassed freshman phenom Cooper Flagg, ending with a fun throwaway question: What three things are you bringing with you in an apocalypse? That's when Flagg jokingly (but not really?) said the seven words atop of this story.  For all the tonnage of attention Duke's superstar freshman has provided over the past five months, Flagg hasn't exactly been quotable. Thus, his one-liner on Knueppel sheds a light. Sure, it was a response made in jest, but it also discloses something about the nature of their friendship. Flagg and Knueppel are great buds and, […]

Jake Paul still can’t shake Mike Tyson: Fallout from their fight continues to give him trouble

Jake Paul's ascent in boxing continues to raise eyebrows - not only for his victories but for how those victories are perceived by fans and boxing legends alike. After his highly publicized and record-breaking bout against Mike Tyson in November, Paul walked away with another win on his record. But in the court of public opinion, the decision is far from unanimous.Jake Paul's bachelor party sparks tension for Logan and his fiancéeThe now 27-year-old Paul outlasted the 58-year-old Tyson in what many had predicted would be a lopsided affair due to the massive age difference and physical disparity. Tyson, once known as "The Baddest Man on the Planet," faded quickly after the first round, visibly exhausted and unable to mount any sustained offense. Paul, significantly younger and in his prime, remained active and took control of the pace, ultimately winning […]

Trump’s tariffs hit Adidas, Nike and leave the sports industry ‘touched’

Sport, one of the world's great industries and, like practically all of them, is closely linked to international trade and global economic flows, has been greatly affected by the tariffs on imports to the United States imposed in the last few hours by President Donald Trump. Who me? Willard downplays criticism by unhappy Maryland as he takes Villanova job

<!--> Kevin Willard deadpanned that — no, he hadn't heard the laundry list of complaints lodged against him by Maryland fans and former players and, well, the list goes on — he threw his program under the bus and then happily got behind the wheel to steamroll over their carcass all while the Terrapins made a run to the Sweet 16.But yes, Willard confessed, he was generally aware of the consensus sentiment that he used Maryland as just a pawn to get whatever it was he wanted at a traditional power such as Villanova. So perhaps Willard knew Maryland alumnus and ESPN star Scott Van Pelt went scorched earth on him and said, among many criticisms levied, "you don't do damage to the university and program where you've been for three years." So perhaps Willard heard Jimmy's Famous Seafood — the […]
