Jimmy Haslam takes accountability (again) while Browns consider Travis Hunter and more

PALM BEACH, Fla. — The issue with the Haslams has never been about accountability. They acknowledged a few years ago they didn’t know what they were doing when they bought the Browns. They’ve admitted on multiple occasions their efforts to win haven’t been good enough. They’ve acknowledged they’re embarrassed by their record since taking over as stewards of this once-proud franchise.AdvertisementSo it wasn’t terribly surprising to me when Jimmy Haslam confessed this week that the Deshaun Watson trade was a disaster. It’s evident to everyone by now, isn’t it? We’re well past the point of denying the emperor had a thief for a tailor. No, admitting failure has never been hard for the Haslams. Fixing their failures, well …“We took a big swing-and-miss with Deshaun,” Haslam said in a private conference room on the mezzanine level of The Breakers while sipping on an […]

Anthony Davis, Mavericks blow opportunity for a key win in Daniel Gafford’s return

Before Monday, Anthony Davis’ record as a Dallas Maverick was unblemished. In the four games in which he’d suited up, the Mavericks had earned wins over the Houston Rockets (Feb. 8), Brooklyn Nets (March 24), Orlando Magic (March 27) and Chicago Bulls (March 29).Saturday, Davis scored 18 points in his native city of Chicago, a morale boost for a Mavericks team that finished its four-game trip with a 3-1 record. Monday’s game against the Brooklyn Nets was an excellent opportunity to keep the positive momentum and add to Dallas’ cushion in the Play-In Tournament race. Instead, the Mavericks squandered a 10-point fourth-quarter lead to a Nets team that will be hoping for the right combination of ping-pong balls at the NBA Draft Lottery later this spring.Advertisement“Fouls. Questionable shots. We were bad from the line,” Davis said after Dallas’ 113-109 home […]
