Garrett Crochet extension: Red Sox agree to record six-year, $170 million deal with new Boston ace, per report

Getty Images The Boston Red Sox and ace left-handed starter Garrett Crochet have agreed to a six-year, $170 million contract extension, ESPN reports. The deal begins with the 2026 season and includes a player opt-out after the 2030 season, which will be Crochet's age-31 campaign. Jeff Passan adds that the deal includes no deferred money and is the largest ever for a pitcher with between four and five years of MLB service time. The Red Sox acquired Crochet, 25, as the centerpiece of a five-player trade with the Chicago White Sox in December. Boston made the major acquisition after Crochet enjoyed a standout season in 2024. In his first season since converting from reliever to starter, Crochet for Chicago pitched to a 3.58 ERA and a 2.23 FIP with 209 strikeouts against 33 unintentional walks in 146 innings en route to […]

NFL’s tush push ban vote: Who’s for it? Who’s against it? Who’s on the fence?

Last week, as NFL teams were preparing to head to Palm Beach, Florida, for the league’s annual spring owners meetings, an AFC executive shared his vantage on different rules proposals expected to head to a vote. One in particular had his attention — much like the rest of the NFL — and also his venom: The potential banning of the quarterback sneak known as the "tush push."“There’s nothing to support making it an issue worth a vote,” the executive said. “If it’s safety, things that might happen is not really going to [carry a vote]. We shouldn’t change rules to get away from injuries that aren’t actually happening. … This is a proposal because some people are pissed that the offense has an advantage over the defense and the [Philadelphia] Eagles just run it better — different offensive linemen, different […]

Pelicans shut down Zion Williamson, CJ McCollum as they aim their tank at Cooper Flagg in NBA Draft

Getty Images The New Orleans Pelicans are going to do everything they can to lose every one of the final seven games on their schedule. As it stands, they own the fourth-worst record in the league with 54 losses, two "behind" the Hornets, whom they beat on Sunday, for a coveted bottom-three spot. That carries with it the maximum 14% chance of landing the No. 1 overall pick in the 2025 NBA Draft, which is almost certain to be Duke's Cooper Flagg. To aid in that effort, the Pelicans have officially shut down Zion Williamson and CJ McCollum for the remainder of the season. The Pelicans released a statement citing a low-back contusion for Williamson and a foot contusion for McCollum, which are alternative ways of saying "we're tanking." Williamson has yet again endured an injury-riddled season, managing to play in just […]
