The New York Yankees lost 5-4 to the Baltimore Orioles and let the series slip away, in a game in which there was everything, even the benches were emptied in the fourth inning.
Aaron Judge had a three-hit night, including a first-inning home run that put the Yankees ahead 2-0 by driving in Trent Grisham, but the fate of the game was sealed in the second inning with home runs by Ryan Mountcastle and Ramon Urias, to turn the score around 2-4.

The Orioles used six bullpen pitchers and the win went to Bryan Baker, while the loss went to starter Carlos Carrasco, but despite the loss, for the Yankees, reliever Fernando Cruz turned in a brilliant performance to control a critical moment.

In the fifth inning, the Yankees went 3-4 with a home run by Paul Goldschmidt, but Tim Hill lost control and not only accepted the 3-5, but also had to be relieved by Fernando Cruz with two men on base as an inheritance and one out.
Cruz controlled the situation and struck out Mountcastle, then retired Heston Kjerstad. Then, in the sixth, he closed out his one-and-a-third inning stint with three straight strikeouts of Urias, Cedric Mullins and Gunnar Henderson, a performance that was recognized by his captain Aaron Judge at the end of the game.
“It’s impressive to see Cruz. He came here and always wanted to be a big Yankees fan, you know? It’s just his attitude on the mound, his presence,” Judge said of Cruz.
Judge’s praise for Cruz did not stop at Cruz’s presence on the mound, but also in the way he faces each challenge, so he sees him as a key player for a long time for the Yankees.
“He’s attacking all the hitters, and I think when you attack players like that, that’s when you start to get some of those swings that we saw, where they’re almost halfway there, almost guessing: is it the fastball, is it the splitter? But when you have a command of the fastball like he does, and a good feel for the splitter, the action is just incredible. So he’s going to be a key piece for us now and in the future,” said Judge.
