Tottenham Hotspur embrace unlikely status as Europa League favorites despite inconsistent season

Getty Images Doom and gloom has followed Tottenham Hotspur like a pesky shadow this season, rightly or wrongly. The specific genre of despondency changes with the context – sometimes an injury crisis of epic proportions brought the mood down, other times the malcontent was inspired by managerial decisions – but the feeling has been inescapable. It is almost in direct conflict with the fact that Spurs enter Thursday as the oddsmakers' favorites to win the UEFA Europa League, just three games away from ending an 18-year trophy drought.Such has been the "Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde" quality of Spurs' season that they have coupled a comfortable spot in 16th place in the Premier League with a trip to the Europa League semifinals. It is the type of situation that makes it difficult for some to take stock of the team's […]

10 statistics to explain Rockies’ historically bad April: By the numbers as Colorado barrels toward MLB record

Imagn Images The Colorado Rockies ended April in rare form on Wednesday night, scoring a 2-1 victory over reigning National League Cy Young Award winner Chris Sale and the Atlanta Braves. The Rockies, losers of eight of their last nine and 16 of their last 18, are now 5-25 on the year with a two-game "cushion" on possession of the worst record in all of Major League Baseball.Predictably, the Rockies find themselves in undesirable company. Earlier this week, they secured the worst start in modern NL history -- and, more importantly, one of the worst starts in all MLB history -- by becoming one of five clubs to lose at least 25 of their first 30 contests. We here at CBS Sports figured the beginning of May was an opportune time to take a deeper look at the Rockies' putrid start.
