Enzo Maresca believes Chelsea should consider signing some more experienced players this summer to help bridge the gap to champions Liverpool.
Chelsea face Liverpool on Sunday, sitting 22 points and four places behind them in the Premier League.
Maresca’s side is the youngest in England’s top division this season with the club concentrating on targeting emerging talent over the past two years.

Liverpool have consistently challenged for major trophies since adding more senior players in Virgil van Dijk and Alisson to the squad in 2018. Maresca believes doing something similar could help Chelsea, even though he can see the group making progress this season.
When asked if Chelsea need to emulate what Liverpool did in the market, he said: “For sure, if you want to close the gap with these kind of clubs then, you have to do things.
“I said already, our team next season will be better also in terms of experience, because this season has been one more year together.
“There are ones who are growing, like Levi (Colwill) for instance. He is growing a lot in terms of leadership. For sure, next sure he will be better and better. Hopefully the ones that we have, they can grow and help us in terms of experience.”
Chelsea, who beat Swedish side Djurgarden in the first leg of their UEFA Conference League semi-final on Thursday, will give Liverpool a guard of honour before the game kicks off at Stamford Bridge and Maresca hopes the image will inspire his players to challenge for the title in 2025-26.
He added: “It’s tradition (to give a guard of honour). We have to do that and we are going to do that. They won the Premier League, so they deserve it.
“In terms of the gap (between Chelsea and Liverpool), it is there, you can see this clearly. My feeling is we are (moving) in the right direction and hopefully this gap can be smaller and smaller and smaller.
“I don’t think we need that (giving a guard of honour) to understand how good it is to win the Premier League. I think we know that it’s something very nice. But for sure, when you are there [giving Liverpool a guard of honour], probably in their mind, our players are thinking, ‘I would like one day to be there’.”
Chelsea are going to get results on Friday from a scan on an injury Christopher Nkunku picked up in training, but are already expecting him to miss the match.
Goalkeeper Robert Sanchez is more likely to return despite missing the win over Djurgarden with a knock sustained against Everton last weekend.
