A jak situaci viděl samotný Maguire?
„Najednou jsem se ocitl na zadní tyči, myslím, že mi to přihrál Garnacho. Bylo fajn si trochu zadriblovat a poslat takový centr do vápna. Měli jsme tam hodně hráčů, asi mi kluci věřili, že to zvládnu,“ smál se v rozhovoru pro TNT Sports.
Zkušený anglický stoper prožívá povedenou sezonu. Ačkoliv se United v Premier League trápí a drží až čtrnáctou příčku, v Evropské lize předvádějí zcela jinou tvář – a Maguire je u toho. Ve čtvrtfinále proti Lyonu vstřelil svůj čtvrtý gól v sezoně a přidal asistenci. Teď opět výrazně pomohl.
„Udělal to neskutečně. Už v Lyonu rozhodl, a po sezonách, kdy byl pod obrovským tlakem fanoušků, najednou rozhoduje zápasy. Třeba dovede tým až k titulu v Evropské lize,“ ocenil ho Martin Fillo, který během své kariéry také rozdával podobné asistence.
V posledních týdnech se z často zesměšňovaného obránce stal miláček fanoušků United. Ti mu na sociálních sítích po klíčové přihrávce proti Bilbau vymysleli přezdívku „Harrydinho“, odkazující na legendárního Brazilce Ronaldinha.
Před výkonem Maguirea smekl i jeho krajan a bývalý stoper Rudých ďáblů Rio Ferdinand. „Když bude takhle hrát, bude si muset znovu jít vyjednat smlouvu jako útočník,“ pobavil v televizním přenosu.
United navíc uspěli i v defenzivě, když udrželi čisté konto. A pokud příští týden na Old Trafford tříbrankový náskok uhájí, představí se v květnovém finále opět na stadionu San Mamés.
