El subcampeón de 2024, Lando Norris, volvió a mandar mansajes aparentemente sinceros de reconocimiento de culpa e insistió en las dificultades para sacarle todo al su actual coche, en un lugar como Miami en el que ganó por primera vez el año pasado y donde podría recuperar el liderato del Mundial. Parece que esa táctica de parecer inferior es su manera de motivarse, pero la imagen no parece la que espera el aficionado de un piloto dominante de la F1.
“No te puedo decir sí o no directamente, quizá él (Piastri) sea más capaz de adaptarse y parte de nuestro trabajo es adaptarse al coche que nos dan. Si Oscar ha podido hacer un mejor trabajo a la hora de adaptarse, no es algo en lo que debería perder el tiempo. Quizá yo esté un poco más perjudicado por no poder estar al nivel al que estaba la temporada pasada, que es el mejor nivel al que he estado nunca”, accedía Norris en la rueda de prensa de la FIA previa al Gran Premio.
Y ante tanta sinceridad le preguntaron si envidia al australiano ahora mismo, para decir que “está haciendo un gran trabajo y se lo merece pero, evidentemente, quiero estar por delante… y este fin de semana es una buena oportunidad para conseguirlo”, añadía.
Muy apretado
Lando vuelve a insistir en que el MCL39 no es ese coche superior que ven los demás en manos de Piastri, en comparación con el resto. “Nos sentimos bien, tenemos confianza en ser los mejores… pero los demás no están lejos. Si cometemos un pequeño error, estaremos por detrás. Hablamos de milésimas. A pesar de eso, es otro fin de semana donde intentaremos mejorar. Hay que asegurarse de tener un fin de semana limpio”, deseaba.
“Estoy trabajando en lo mío. Estoy trabajando en qué mejorar y averiguar qué cosas tengo que mejorar. No es que falte velocidad o que haya una falta de habilidad para hacerlo. He liderado en Q1 y Q2, pero a veces en la Q3 las cosas no han ido según lo planificado”, dice sobre esa falta de dominio en el momento clave de la calificación que sí es tan importante en un trazado urbano como Arabia o en MIami este fin de semana.
“No pensé en la pretemporada que iba a encontrar estas dificultades con el coche. Es una cuestión de milésimas, pero hasta que no pilotas en varios circuitos distintos no llegas a darte cuenta de eso”, señala sobre su superioridad en los test de Bahréin o la carrera de Australia, que ganó de calle, para entrar en una pequeña crisis. Ya les gustaría al resto de la parrilla tener en sus manos un McLaren para salir de la suya, que le pregunten a Alonso, por ejemplo.
“Creo que hay cosas que me impiden sentir lo que debería sentir, y eso es lo que no me permite pilotar al nivel al que puedo pilotar. Hablamos de pequeñas cosas, no es que el coche sea imposible de conducir. En clasificación, hablamos de centésimas o milésimas”, añadía sobre su coche. No siente y Piastri le ha pasado ya por la derecha mientras él sigue con el gesto de derrota. Difícil de explicar.
