Mikel Arteta is confident that Kai Havertz can play “a few games” before the end of the season if his rehab continues to go as planned.
The Germany international was expected to miss the rest of the season after suffering a torn hamstring during Arsenal’s training camp in Dubai in February.
The 25-year-old forward subsequently underwent surgery, with a club statement saying his rehabilitation period was “expected to extend into pre-season preparations for next season.”

However, Arteta says Havertz’s recovery is exceeding expectations, and it is possible that he features this season.
“I think so,” Arteta said when asked if Havertz will play again this season. “I think if everything goes the way it’s going at the moment and the way it’s planned, I think he will have a chance to play a few games in the season.”
Havertz scored 15 goals in 34 appearances for Mikel Arteta’s side in his revised role as a centre forward this campaign prior to his injury. The German’s absence left Arsenal short on forward options after the club failed to sign a striker in the January transfer window, with Mikel Merino deputising in the centre of attack.
Fellow attackers Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli had also suffered concurrent hamstring issues. Martinelli missed four matches before his return in March, while Saka returned from a near-four-month absence at the start of April.
Riccardo Calafiori and Jorginho were both absent as Arsenal lost 1-0 to PSG in the first leg of their Champions League semi-final on Tuesday. Arteta confirmed that the pair will miss Saturday’s game against Bournemouth as the former’s injury has taken longer than expected.
“Yeah, he (Jorginho) has got a bit more complicated than expected,” said Arteta.
“Thankfully, he’s fine, he’s feeling good, he’s recovering well, but it was a bit more than what we wanted. Hopefully, if everything goes well in the next week or so, I think he will (return before the end of the season).
“Gradually, I think he will be integrated into the team.”
Arsenal are seven points clear of fifth-placed Chelsea and could have their Champions League status for next season mathematically confirmed, depending on results elsewhere, if they beat Bournemouth on Saturday.
Arteta’s side then face PSG in the second leg of their Champions League semi-final on Wednesday.

When asked about the possibility of Havertz, Calafiori, or Jorginho being fit to make the trip to Paris next week, Arteta said: “I wouldn’t rule all of them out. Let’s see in the next few days how I feel they react.”
Arsenal only have four Premier League games remaining as they look to seal a third successive second-place finish, but the return of Havertz would be a major boost and could put him in contention for the Champions League final on May 31, if Arsenal defeat PSG next week.
