Šwiateková se sice na všech letošních turnajích podívala minimálně do čtvrtfinále, o titul však naposledy hrála na loňském French Open. Pořadatelé ve španělské metropoli snili o finálové repríze mezi Šwiatekovou a světovou jedničkou Arynou Sabalenkovou.
Jenže Coco Gauffová postavila všechny prognózy na hlavu a polské hvězdě uštědřila největší výprask od Roland Garros 2019, kde Šwiateková vyfasovala od Simony Halepové potupný debakl 1:6, 0:6. Ve čtvrtek v Madridu se sice vyhnula kanáru, ale prohra dvakrát 1:6 je pro Polku možná tou nejtěžší porážkou vůbec.
„Pamatuji si, jak v roce 2019 dospívající Šwiateková prohrála se Simonou Halepovou. Jenže rozhodně to nebyl tak hrozný zápas, jaký předvedla dnes,“ nebral si servítky polský expert webu Sport.pl Lukasz Jachimiak. A skutečně, světová dvojka si v zápase nevypracovala jediný brejkbol a na vlastním servise uhrála pouze 41 % výměn.
Kapitán polské reprezentace Dawid Celt neskrýval překvapení. „Nic takového jsem nečekal. Upřímně řečeno takový výsledek bych nikdy nepředpokládal,“ komentoval debakl manžel bývalé světové dvojky Agnieszky Radwaňské.
Šwiateková přitom do semifinále vstupovala jako favoritka. S Gauffovou měla před utkáním parádní vzájemnou bilanci 11:3, v Madridu se navíc hraje na její oblíbené antuce. „Jenže takhle jsem Igu nikdy neviděl. Rozpadla se na kusy, nepochopitelné!“ glosoval další z novinářů Rafael Stec. „Problém je ve stylu porážky, těžko najít něco pozitivního. A Řím a French Open jsou hned za rohem,“ připomněla Agnieszka Niedziałeková ze Sport.pl.
V Paříži totiž na Šwiatekovou čeká náročná obhajoba loňského titulu (2000 bodů – pozn. aut), což se v aktuální situaci nejeví příliš reálně. Pád žebříčkem WTA se zdá nevyhnutelný.
Už v nejnovějším vydání rankingu se před Polku může v případě madridského triumfu dostat právě Gauffová. Navíc momentálně čtvrtá Jessica Pegualová, jež loni na Roland Garros nestartovala, a tudíž může pouze získat, ztrácí na Šwiatekovou přesně 500 bodů…

„Nic v mé hře nefungovalo. Byla jsem všude pozdě a neměla jsem žádný plán B. Hrála jsem skutečně špatně, zato Coco hrála skvěle,“ říkala sama Šwiateková po zápase.
