The Calgary Flames have signed forward Matt Coronato to a seven-year, $45.50 million contract, the team announced Saturday. The 22-year-old right-shot forward was slated to be a restricted free agent this summer. Coronato’s contract will carry a $6.5 million cap hit through 2032 when he’ll be 29 years old.

“Matt wants to be here long term, and that says a lot about him and where this is kind of going, moving forward,” general manager Craig Conroy said via an X post the team shared.

Coronato scored 24 goals and 47 points in 77 games with the Flames this past year. His goal totals were third-best on the Flames, just behind Nazem Kadri and Jonathan Huberdeau. Four of Coronato’s goals were game-winning goals. Coronato’s 47 points were also tied for third-best on the Flames, alongside defenceman MacKenzie Weegar.

The forward, however, will not join Team USA at the IIHF World Hockey Championship in Sweden and Denmark this spring. The Flames called it a “preventable decision” that came after an MRI conducted last month.

Calgary’s first-round pick from 2021 joined the team for one NHL game at the end of the 2022-23 campaign before playing 34 games during the 2023-24 season. Coronato scored three goals and nine points that season.
