Justin Jefferson just ignited another firestorm in the NFL-all because of Shedeur Sanders. Just when it seemed the controversy surrounding the former Colorado standout had finally settled, the Minnesota Vikings wide receiver reignited the debate, dragging two of the league’s biggest names into the discussion.
The Shedeur saga hit its peak on the third weekend of April. After months of speculation, mock drafts, and heated debates, the Cleveland Browns selected the son of the legendary Deion Sanders-but not before letting him slide all the way to the sixth round, with the 144th overall pick.
The unexpected drop sent shockwaves through the league, sparking criticism from players, analysts, and fans alike. More than a week later, Jefferson threw another log on the fire-this time, pulling Russell Wilson into the debate.
“The Giants should have drafted Shedeur”
In a video posted by @dalvinthetruth on X (formerly Twitter), the host pressed Jefferson on where Sanders should have gone. Without hesitation, the Vikings star responded, “New York doesn’t really have a quarterback… The Steelers, Cleveland definitely need a quarterback, too.”
Heading into the draft, the New York Giants were widely expected to be among the top contenders for Sanders. But in late March, they signed Russell Wilson, effectively shutting the door on any chance of selecting the Colorado quarterback. Jefferson’s comments indirectly cast doubt on Wilson’s ability to lead the team moving forward.
Meanwhile, his mention of Cleveland-the team that eventually drafted Sanders-raises another battlefront. The Browns currently have five quarterbacks on the roster, led by the injured Deshaun Watson. Despite the crowded QB room, Jefferson insisted that the team still needs a quarterback.
Pittsburgh faces a similar dilemma. Mason Rudolph appears to be the presumed starter, but he’ll be competing with Skylar Thompson and rookie Will Howard. Jefferson’s remarks not only took aim at a franchise that many thought would draft Sanders in the first round but also indirectly challenged Rudolph’s standing as Pittsburgh’s QB1.
Shedeur’s uncertain NFL future
Analysts remain divided on Cleveland’s next move. With Watson sidelined for most of the season due to an Achilles injury, Joe Flacco and Kenny Pickett are expected to battle for the starting job.
Behind them, rookie Dillon Gabriel-a third-round selection-and Sanders could be locked in a fierce competition for the team’s fourth quarterback spot. But until head coach Kevin Stefanski unveils his long-term plans, Sanders’ NFL future remains a giant question mark.
