Leeds United scored yet another dramatic late winner to bring up 100 points and pip Burnley to the Championship title.
Manor Solomon’s 91st-minute goal at Plymouth Argyle on the season’s final day sealed a come-from-behind 2-1 win on the south coast and saw them stay above Burnley — who beat Millwall 3-1 at Turf Moor — on goal difference.

Both had already secured their Premier League returns, mathematically ensuring promotion on Easter Monday as they both reached a points tally of 94 — beyond what could be reached by third-placed Sheffield United.
It’s the first time Leeds have taken the title since 2019/20, when they earned a long-awaited return to the top flight under Marcelo Bielsa.

Despite finishing ninth in their first season back in the top-flight, Leeds suffered relegation back to the Championship in 2023, and failed to secure an immediate return back despite picking up 90 points and finishing third last year in the second tier. They were defeated 1-0 by Southampton in the play-off final.
Leeds’ title-clinching season adds a third English trophy to Daniel Farke’s resume. He won the Championship with Norwich City in 2019 and 2021, but could not prevent the club from finishing bottom of the Premier League in the subsequent seasons.
Big wins over Cardiff City — 7-0 — and Stoke — 6-0 — will be remembered fondly by supporters as will the dramatic late shows in victories over Sunderland and Sheffield United in February and again at Plymouth on the last day.
Leeds’ 100-point haul is the highest tally for a single season in the history of the club. They accumulated 93 points in their Championship-winning 2019/20 season.
Joel Piroe has been central to the club’s success this term, and ended as the division’s top goalscorer with 19 this campaign. That tally included four goals against Stoke City, as Leeds secured promotion with a 6-0 rout and two games to spare.
En route to second place, Scott Parker’s Burnley broke the record for the tightest defence in Championship history. A record previously held by West Bromwich Albion, who let in 29 goals in the 2001/02 season, Burnley conceded just 16 times this term.
Burnley’s promotion is Parker’s third as a manager. He previously led Fulham and Bournemouth back into the Premier League via the play-offs in 2020 and 2022.
