O Flamengo vai reencontrar, neste domingo, às 18h30 (de Brasília), no Mineirão, Gabigol pela primeira vez desde que o atacante deixou o clube para se transferir para o Cruzeiro, em janeiro deste ano. Esta pode ser a oportunidade do jogador de 28 anos melhorar seus números contra o time rubro-negro na carreira.
O atacante enfrentou o Flamengo sete vezes desde que se tornou profissional e balançou as redes em somente uma oportunidade, no Brasileirão de 2018, na Vila Belmiro. Inclusive, a primeira partida de Gabigol na carreira foi justamente contra o time rubro-negro, em 2013, no jogo que marcou a despedida de Neymar.
Durante os sete confrontos, Gabigol acumula dois cartões amarelos, um pênalti perdido e uma bola na rede — o gol foi marcado no primeiro turno do Brasileirão de 2018. Ele foi titular em cinco jogos e saiu do banco nas outras duas oportunidades. Ao todo, foram 449 minutos contra o Flamengo na carreira de Gabriel Barbosa.

Nos últimos anos, porém, Gabigol caiu de rendimento e foi para o banco com os técnicos Jorge Sampaoli e Tite, entre 2023 e 2024. A renovação, que chegou a ser alinhada com a antiga diretoria, acabou descartada. O Flamengo entendeu que não valia o preço pedido.
No ano passado, entre idas e vindas, Gabigol esteve na mira de Palmeiras e Santos. Depois, do Corinthians. Foi flagrado com a camisa do clube paulista durante um churrasco em casa, o que levou ao seu afastamento pelo Fla e à perda do número 10. O ciclo começava a chegar ao fim. O canto do cisne veio na final da Copa do Brasil, com dois gols sobre o Atlético-MG.
Após não renovar com o Flamengo, Gabigol acertou com o Cruzeiro, que usou as redes sociais para dar as boas-vindas ao atacante, no primeiro dia de 2025. O atleta acertou o vínculo com a nova equipe até 2028 e, pela primeira vez neste domingo, enfrentará seu ex-clube.
