Čeští hokejisté na domácím turnaji zapsali nejprve vítězství 4:2 s Finskem, v sobotu však stejným poměrem podlehli Švédsku, které České hry ovládne. Švýcaři mají na kontě rovněž tři body, nejprve podlehli Tre Kronor doma 1:2, včera si však proti Finům zastříleli a zvítězili 8:2.
V sestavě národního týmu je dle očekávání opět řada změn. Do branky se vrací Karel Vejmelka, záda mu kryje Daniel Vladař. V defenzivě se objevuje Jiří Ticháček, kterého kouč Rulík znovu povolal kvůli zranění obránců Kempného s Kundrátkem.

V útoku se poprvé představí dva z finalistů extraligy Jakub Flek a Jáchym Kondelík. Pardubický obr vytvoří zajímavou formaci s Adamem Klapkou, dalším hráčem měřícím přes dva metry, a Danielem Voženílkem, kterému rovněž fyzická hra není cizí. Výškový průměr třetího útoku činí 198 centimetrů. Zbylí dva forvardi z finále nejvyšší domácí soutěže, tedy Roman Červenka s Lukášem Sedlákem, odpočívají na tribuně.
Večer přibližně hodinu po utkání je na programu nominační tisková konference na mistrovství světa v Herningu a Stockholmu.
