Schon 2023 waren Gerüchte um einen Wechsel im Sommer 2024 aufgekommen. Der THW-Geschäftsführer bestätigt indirekt, dass Kiel Köster schon früher wollte: „Es ist richtig, dass wir uns länger mit ihm beschäftigen. Seine Entwicklung ist rasant, Julian ist ein Spieler, bei dem dieses berühmte Gesamtpaket einfach gepasst hat. Er ist ein sehr bodenständiger, ehrlicher junger Mann, insofern liefen die Gespräche so, dass immer beide Seiten wussten, woran man ist. Und dann akzeptiert man auch, dass es irgendwann irgendwie zu früh war, aber jetzt ist es der richtige Zeitpunkt. Jetzt sind wir sehr, sehr froh und sehr, sehr stolz und alle im Verein freuen sich auf Julian.“
Handball: THW Kiel gewinnt beim TVB Stuttgart
Was Kösters Rolle beim Rekordmeister angeht, hat Szilágyi eine klare Vorstellung: „Er ist bereit dazu, Leader zu sein. Er hat ganz bewusst jetzt diesen Schritt gewählt. Er ist ein Führungsspieler sowohl bei Gummersbach als auch in der Nationalmannschaft. Er kommt als 26-Jähriger zu uns und bringt trotzdem nationale und internationale Erfahrung mit.“
Dass er Kiel damit helfen kann, zeigt sich auch beim Spiel in Stuttgart. Offensiv treffen die Norddeutschen zwar fast nach Belieben, doch defensiv wird gegen den TVB viel zu viel zugelassen. Szilágyi: „Wir haben eine sehr, sehr gute Angriffsleistung, in der Abwehr können und müssen wir drauflegen, die Anzahl der Gegentore ist zu hoch.“

Zur Pause steht es 23:19 für Kiel. Alle drei involvierten Torhüter – Bellahcene und Vujovic bei Stuttgart, Mrkva bei Kiel – werden von ihrern Abwehrspielern schön hängen gelassen, kriegen aber auch selbst kaum eine Hand an den Ball.
Dann erinnert sich Samir Bellahcene daran, dass er ja immerhin französischer Europameister ist, hält nach der Pause wie einer gegen seinen Ex-Klub, legt in kürzester Zeit sechs Paraden aufs Parkett. Der TVB schafft den Ausgleich zum 23:23, bleibt bis zum 27:27 dran.
