The Kansas City Chiefs boast one of the NFL‘s most formidable rosters, but as the 2025 season approaches, their ground game remains a weak link. Despite a strong 2025 NFL Draft, the Chiefs could elevate their Super Bowl chances by adding a game-changer like Nick Chubb to their backfield.

Chiefs’ Draft success leaves room for more talent
The Chiefs‘ recent draft haul added depth and promise, but their roster still has gaps. With a middling rushing attack exposed in last season’s Super Bowl loss, Kansas City must consider veteran additions to complement their committee-based backfield.
Nick Chubb: The perfect fit for Kansas City?
LeAnn Lowman of Pro Football Network sees Cleveland Browns star Nick Chubb as an ideal target to revitalize the Chiefs’ ground game. Kansas City has prioritized other positions this offseason, but their running back unit-led by Isiah Pacheco, Kareem Hunt, and Samaje Perine-underperformed in critical moments.
“The Kansas City Chiefs fell woefully short in their Super Bowl loss to the Philadelphia Eagles, and one of the things they were missing was a strong rushing attack, as Isiah Pacheco didn’t look the same after breaking his leg early in the 2024 season,” Lowman said.
In the Super Bowl, Pacheco, Hunt, and Perine managed just 24 rushing yards combined. While the Chiefs re-signed Hunt, his inconsistency and age (29) raise concerns. Chubb, despite his injury history, brings a fierce drive to win and could pair with Hunt to form a dynamic backfield duo in Kansas City.
Why Chubb and the Chiefs are a match made in heaven
Chubb’s injury concerns are valid, but the Chiefs’ roster depth makes them uniquely equipped to take the risk. Unlike his workhorse role in Cleveland, Chubb would thrive in Kansas City’s running-back-by-committee approach, sharing carries to reduce wear and tear. This setup could extend his career while maximizing his impact.
Lowman highlights Chubb’s hunger for a championship, noting, “Chubb wants to win, and the Chiefs give him a real shot at a ring.” A move to Kansas City could be mutually beneficial, offering Chubb a lighter workload and the Chiefs a proven, explosive runner to balance their offense.
Will the Chiefs pull the trigger?
The decision to pursue Chubb hinges on the Chiefs’ confidence in their current backs. With Pacheco recovering and Hunt’s inconsistency, adding a talent like Chubb could be the key to reclaiming Super Bowl glory. As the NFL offseason progresses, all eyes are on Kansas City’s next move.
