Blues’ Dylan Holloway expected to be ready for start of 2025-26 after surgery for undisclosed injury

ST. LOUIS — St. Louis Blues breakout forward Dylan Holloway has had surgery for the injury that kept him out of the lineup down the stretch and for the playoffs and is expected to be available for the start of the 2025-26 season, general manager Doug Armstrong said at his end-of-season news conference Tuesday.

Armstrong did not disclose the nature of the injury.

Holloway was hurt in the Blues’ 5-4 overtime win over the Pittsburgh Penguins on April 3. He was wincing in pain after a hit by Pittsburgh’s Rutger McGroarty in the first period. He took one more shift then didn’t return.

Originally, the Blues announced that he’d be out for a couple of games and that they’d have a more definitive timeline after Holloway was evaluated. When the official diagnosis came, they said it would be week to week.

“We were hoping for better news,” Blues coach Jim Montgomery said at the time. “We were hoping for day-to-day instead of week-to-week, (but) we’ll just see how it progresses now.”

Asked if Holloway would be out for the remainder of the regular season, Montgomery said, “Again, week-to-week. … It’s just a different type of injury we haven’t dealt with. It’s how quickly does it mend? Is it a week? It is two weeks? I don’t know.”

In the end, Holloway did not return to the Blues’ lineup, missing the last five games of the regular season and all seven games of their first-round series against the Winnipeg Jets. His presence was certainly missed in an extremely physical series.

In the regular season, Holloway was the Blues’ second-leading goal-scorer with 26 and third in points with 63. He was fifth on the team with 165 hits in 77 games (7.64 hits per 60 minutes).

Holloway, 23, has one season remaining on a two-way contract with a $2.29 annual average value. If unsigned, he will become a restricted free agent following the 2025-26 season.
