Švéd si sice po nešťastném momentu ještě dělal naděje, že nepřijde o MS na domácím ledě, ale teď už je jasné, že pro něj to nevzalo příznivý konec. Ve Stockholmu si nezahraje.

Naděje už je ale pryč. Novinář Sheng Peng, který píše o San Jose Sharks, jako první zveřejnil, že podle informací od generálního manažera klubu Mika Griera a od Eklundova agenta hvězda celku NHL určitě zmešká celý šampionát.
MS v hokeji 2025
88. ročník mistrovství světa v hokeji je na programu v termínu od 9. do 25. května 2025. Hostit jej bude Švédsko a Dánsko, konkrétně Stockholm a Herning.
Sheng Peng též zmínil, že by Eklund mohl být mimo dění na kluzištích až tři měsíce. Zprávu o absenci předpokládané opory na MS pak potvrdilo i vedení Tre Kronor a sám hráč.
„Došlo mi to docela rychle, když jsem byl v nemocnici,“ přiznal Eklund dále pro hockeysverige.se. Na sítích nabídl i obrázek ošetřené ruky.
V budoucnu počítá s tím, že bude používat chránič zápěstí, aby se nešťastná situace neopakovala.
„Bylo to smutné, ale na druhou stranu to mohlo být mnohem horší, takže z toho mám v jistém smyslu trochu zmatek. Teď už jen přeji týmu hodně štěstí a vítězství v boji o zlato,“ dodal.
