Se rompió la sensacional racha de los equipos españoles en la Final Four de la Euroliga. Han sido 19 ediciones consecutivas con presencia de clubes de la Liga Endesa, pero lamentablemente no habrá ninguno en la cita que se disputará en Abu Dhabi entre el 23 y el 25 de mayo.
La derrota del Barcelona en el quinto partido de su serie frente al Mónaco (85-84) ha supuesto la eliminación del último representante español en la Euroliga. Antes de los azulgranas cayeron el Real Madrid, en el cuarto encuentro frente al Olympiacos, y el Baskonia, que no llegó ni siquiera al play-in.
De esa manera termina una racha que se inicio en la Final Four de Tel Aviv en 2004. Fue la última vez que no hubo representación española en el fin de semana en el que se decide el trono continental. Desde que la máxima competición continental está en manos de la Euroliga, ningún país ha disfrutado una trayectoria así. Lo más parecido lo consiguió Rusia que, gracias al CSKA y a una única presencia del Lokomotiv Kuban, estuvo en 17 ediciones de 18 (faltó en 2011) antes de que la guerra de Ucrania impidiera participar a sus equipos.
El Barça lleva ya 15 años sin Euroliga
Para el Barcelona habría sido la cuarta Final Four en cinco ediciones y la novena de las últimas 16. Los azulgranas no podrán aspirar a conseguir una Euroliga que no consiguen desde 2010. Para el Madrid, estar en Abu Dhabi, habría supuesto enlazar cuatro Final Four consecutivas y la undécima de 14 posibles desde 2011.
Durante estos años, el Baskonia también disputó cinco Finales a Cuatro y el Unicaja en una. En total han sido 24 presencias de clubes españoles desde 2004, pues en seis ediciones (2006, 2007, 2013, 2014, 2022 y 2023) hubo doble participación de equipos de la Liga Endesa.
