If you’ve ever wondered what it would be like to combine the muscle of a supercar with the comfort of a luxury sedan and the efficiency of an electrified powertrain, the all-new 2025 BMW M5 Sedan answers that question with authority. Now in its seventh generation, the iconic M5 embraces a bold new era of performance and electrification without losing its signature edge.

Under the hood lies a 4.4-liter twin-turbocharged V8, now paired with a plug-in hybrid system (PHEV) that delivers a combined output of 727 horsepower and 738 lb-ft of torque. This new setup borrows tech from BMW’s M Hybrid V8 endurance racer, and it shows. During our test drive through Southern Florida’s winding roads, the M5 delivered relentless acceleration and dynamic handling that belies its hybrid nature.
BMW claims a 0-60 mph time of just 3.4 seconds, and despite its curb weight of over 5,300 pounds, the M5 feels impressively nimble. Adaptive M suspension and rear-wheel steering work together to keep body roll in check, while the xDrive all-wheel-drive system offers tremendous grip-even with power biased toward the rear wheels in sportier drive modes.
But what truly sets the 2025 M5 apart is its redesigned interior, which blends high-end materials, advanced tech, and a driver-centric layout in a way few rivals can match. Open the door and you’re greeted by deeply bolstered M sport seats wrapped in premium Merino leather, complete with contrast stitching, ventilation, heating, and multi-way power adjustments with memory. Soft-touch materials cover every surface, while carbon fiber or open-pore wood accents (depending on spec) add visual punch.

Front and center is BMW’s latest curved display, combining a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster with a 14.9-inch central touchscreen, all powered by the brand-new iDrive 8.5 system. The interface is clean, fast, and highly customizable. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard, along with over-the-air updates, AI voice commands, and augmented-reality navigation.
The Head-Up Display with M-specific graphics projects vital driving info onto the windshield, while a four-zone climate control system, an optional 1,400-watt Bowers& Wilkins Diamond surround sound system, and ambient LED lighting with custom color schemes turn every drive into a sensory experience.
On the tech and safety front, the 2025 M5 is fully loaded: adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go, lane-keeping assist, a 360-degree camera, automatic reversing assist, and BMW’s excellent Highway Assistant, which allows hands-free driving for brief periods on select highways.
Exterior-wise, the new M5 strikes a confident yet refined tone. It’s more aggressive than its predecessor, but not flashy. Flared fenders, a new front fascia, functional aero components, and a quad exhaust setup leave no doubt about its performance intent. Staggered forged wheels-20 inches up front, 21 in the rear-complete the commanding look.
The plug-in hybrid system includes a 14.8-kWh battery that enables up to 25 miles of all-electric range, perfect for daily commutes or short errands. Combined fuel economy is estimated at around 21 mpg when operating in hybrid mode.
Estimated base price: $120,000 USD
