The Philadelphia Eagles are close to finalizing a deal with Dallas Goedert on a re-worked contract that will keep the tight end with the franchise for the 2025 season, a league source confirmed Wednesday.
The Eagles, who spent the offseason maintaining their budget, tried finding a trading partner for Goedert. The 30-year-old was scheduled to be the team’s fifth-highest cap hit in 2025, according to Over the Cap. However, a deal never materialized, indicating the complications of trading a seven-year veteran who has experienced significant injuries in each of the last three seasons.

The results of the NFL draft offered the first signs that the Eagles might have to re-work a deal with Goedert. Of the 10 draft picks the Eagles spent, none were used on a tight end. Six tight ends were chosen within the draft’s first 67 picks, and the Eagles did not appear to be within range of realistically selecting any of them. The team’s reluctance to spend any of their Day 3 draft capital revealed how the Eagles valued the remaining tight ends and instead targeted other position groups to address.
“Every time that we had the opportunity to pick, we were looking at the board and really trying to reflect what that worked to put those grades in really should be reflected in the outcome, so we didn’t want to kind of drop down at some points,” Eagles general manager Howie Roseman said then. “There were some points where it was close, but it was never at the time we were selecting the best player.”
The Eagles exited the draft with no long-term replacement for Goedert. Grant Calcaterra is entering the final year of his rookie contract, and the Eagles signed veterans Kyle Granson and Harrison Bryant to one-year deals during free agency.
Goedert’s re-worked contract will only be a temporary solution for Philadelphia’s tight end room. The full terms of Goedert’s new contract aren’t yet certain, but the Eagles will likely spread out Goedert’s cap hit in a restructure similar to what Josh Sweat agreed to before the 2024 season.
