Alba Berlin spielt nächstes Jahr europäisch – in der Champions League. In der laufenden Saison war der Vizemeister noch in der Euroleague gestartet, der Königsklasse des Basketballs.

Wir haben eine lange Tradition mit der Euroleague und wir wollen immer im sportlich bestmöglichen Wettbewerb spielen. Die Bedingungen für einen Euroleague-Startplatz haben sich zuletzt jedoch extrem verändert.“
Was er meint: Die Euroleague bietet Vereinen wie Alba Berlin, Partizan und Roter Stern Belgrad eine Wildcard an. Diese soll rund 5 Mio. Euro für drei Jahre kosten.
Das Geld fließt in einem Topf, aus dem nur die Mannschaften, die eine A-Lizenz für die Euroleague haben, bezahlt. Heißt: Heißt: Alba würde von den Zahlungen für die Wildcards sowie von den Liga-Einnahmen für TV- und Marketing-Rechte keinen Cent sehen.
Alba macht ersten Schritt Richtung NBA Europa: Berliner spielen nächstes Jahr in der Champions League
Dazu kommt: Die Euroleague ist ein privates Unternehmen. Dagegen wird die Champions League vom Weltverband Fiba organisiert. Der plant gerade gemeinsam mit der NBA eine Liga in Europa. Nach BILD-Informationen ist Alba Berlin als Klub für die neue Liga im Gespräch.
Viele Details zur geplanten Europa-NBA sind noch nicht bekannt. Es soll sich um eine 16er-Liga handeln. Sie könnte schon im Sommer 2026 an den Start gehen.

Alba und die Euroleague – das lief in der aktuellen Saison ohnehin nicht rund. Der elfmalige Deutsche Meister wurde mit der Katastrophen-Bilanz von nur 5 Siegen und 29 Pleiten zum zweiten Mal in Folge abgeschlagen Letzter.
Die Spiele der Basketball Champions League werden in Deutschland von Dyn (gehört wie SPORT BILD zu Axel Springer/Anzeige) live übertragen. In der laufenden Spielzeit waren 32 Klubs aus 16 Ländern dabei. In der Hauptrunde traten jeweils vier Teams in acht Gruppen in Hin- und Rückspiel gegeneinander an. Am Ende der Saison spielen vier Teams den Titel in einem Final Four untereinander aus.

Die Gruppen-Auslosung für die Saison 2025/2026 findet am 2. Juli in Lausanne (Schweiz) statt. Die neue Saison startet dann am 7. Oktober 2025.
