Roberts Bukarts přišel do Ostravy před sezonou 2019/2020 z pražské Sparty a v následujícím ročníku nasbíral ve 47 zápasech slušných 42 bodů (16 gólů a 26 asistencí). Bodově nejlepší období ve Vítkovicích prožil v ročníku 2022/2023, kdy zvládl všech dvaapadesát utkání základní části a posbíral 47 bodů (21+26). Další čtyři bodíky (3+1) pak přidal v deseti utkáních play off.
Druhý nejproduktivnější cizinec ve vítkovické historii (156 bodů ve 246 zápasech) zůstával v následujících letech hodně za svými možnostmi, ztratil přízeň fanoušků i trenérů. Svými výkony si častokrát říkal o vyřazení ze sestavy, což jak Miloš Holaň v závěru roku 2024 tak současný trenér Václav Varaďa letos na jaře neváhali udělat.

Bukarts v nedávno skončené extraligové sezoně nastoupil v základní části do 46 zápasů, v nichž nastřádal pouhých 15 bodů za 6 branek a 9 asistencí. „Sezona v jeho podání až tak ideální není,“ připustil v průběhu předkola play off Varaďa.
Přesto mu dal důvěru a lotyšského forvarda poslal v sedmé sérii třetího utkání předkola proti Karlovým Varům dvakrát do rozhodujících nájezdů.
Bukarts sílu okamžiku zvládl a gólem vystřelil Vítkovicím vedení 2:1 na zápasy. „Umí dávat velké góly. Střelbu má vynikající,“ poznamenal po vítězství 4:3 v nájezdech vítkovický trenér na adresu 34letého útočníka, pro něhož to byl ovšem jediný a zároveň poslední vítkovický bod.

Klub z Ostravy provádí pod Varaďovým vedením v kádru slušnou čistku. Roberts Bukarts je jedenáctým hráčem, který klub opouští. Už dříve se Varaďa rozloučil s Rihardsem Bukartsem, mladším bratrem Robertse, Petrem Haškem (Hradec Králové), Jurajem Mikušem (Trenčín), Janem Eberlem (Litoměřice), Patrikem Marcelem (Vsetín), Stuartem Percym (Plzeň), Lukášem Paříkem (Poruba), Robertem Říčkou (Zlín) a Marcelem Barinkou (Kladno). Po konci hostování se navíc do Pardubic vrátil reprezentační bek Jan Košťálek.
Smlouvy ve Vítkovicích naopak v minulých týdnech podepsali 33letý lotyšský obránce Ralfs Freibergs z Hradce Králové, z Liberce do Ostravy zamířil 27letý bek Vojtěch Budík, ze Slavie Praha 20letý obránce Patrik Brůna a ze zámoří 19letý zadák Vojtěch Port.
V útoku moravského klubu budou nově působit 33letý slovenský reprezentant Marek Hrivík, který přestoupil ze švédského Leksandu, 20letý polský útočník Krzysztof Maciaś, jenž se vrací po dvou sezonách v zámoří a 25letý František Řehák ze švýcarského druholigového Oltenu.
