TORONTO — Anthony Stolarz will not make the trip to Florida with his Toronto Maple Leafs teammates for Game 3 of their second-round series with the Panthers, head coach Craig Berube told reporters Thursday.
The Leafs have not provided any formal update on Stolarz’s condition since he was removed from the opening game of the series on Monday night. The goaltender threw up on the bench not long after a net-front collision with Florida’s Sam Bennett in which Bennett’s forearm caught Stolarz’s head. Stolarz had also been hit in the mask with a shot earlier in that game and was taken to hospital for further evaluation.

Berube has tried to leave the door open to the possibility of a quick return in his public comments since, but acknowledged Thursday that Stolarz wouldn’t be on the team flight to Fort Lauderdale ahead of Game 3 on Friday night.
“I doubt it,” said Berube. “Not right away.”
Joseph Woll replaced Stolarz in the Leafs net and made 25 saves in a 4-3 win on Wednesday to help the Leafs take a 2-0 series lead over the defending Stanley Cup champions.
Stolarz has not been seen doing any on-ice work since his injury, but teammates say he’s been in good spirits around the practice facility.
Despite a clear injury to the head or neck area, Berube has declined to say whether he suffered a concussion. The return-to-play progression for NHL players dealing with head injuries typically lasts at least seven days, with the league’s Concussion Evaluation and Management Protocol outlining a six-step evaluation process in which exercise, intensity and contact are steadily increased in 24-hour increments to gauge whether post-concussion symptoms are still present.
Team physicians are responsible for determining when a player has cleared protocol and returned to his neurological baseline, clearing the way for a return to live game action.
Berube told reporters on Thursday he had yet to see Stolarz that morning.
Asked before Game 2 whether it was possible Stolarz might return to the Leafs crease at some point during this series, Berube replied, “Well, anything’s possible. I mean, I don’t have an answer for ya for that right now.”
Matt Murray served as Woll’s backup in Game 2.
