Quenneville patřil k potrestaným členům vedení Blackhawks, kteří v roce 2010 nereagovali podle nezávislého vyšetřování dostatečně rychle a důrazně na obvinění, že tehdejší videokouč Brad Aldrich sexuálně napadl hráče Kylea Beache. Místo řešení situace se vedení rozhodlo vyčkat na konec play off, aby se vyhnulo negativní publicitě.

Šestašedesátiletý Quenneville dovedl Chicago k triumfu ve Stanley Cupu v letech 2010, 2013 a 2015. Za 25 sezon v NHL nasbíral 969 výher, více vítězství v elitní soutěži má na kontě jen legendární Scotty Bowman (1244). Na lavičce Anaheimu nahradí Grega Cronina, kterého vedení klubu propustilo poté, co tým posedmé v řadě nepostoupil do play off.

„Tohle je klub, ve kterém jsem chtěl restartovat kariéru, a jsem za tuhle příležitost vážně vděčný. Během takřka čtyř let, kdy jsem byl bez hokeje, jsem se poučil ze svých chyb a uvědomil si, že moje odhodlání být lepším vůdcem ukážou lépe činy než slova,“ uvedl Quenneville.
