Ainda conforme o jornalista, o Manchester City definiu Wesley como principal alvo para a lateral-direita e preferiu o brasileiro ao inglês Tino Livramento, do Newcastle. Contudo, ainda não se sabe quanto o clube está disposto a oferecer pelo atleta rubro-negro.
Na última janela de transferência, o Flamengo negou ofertas na casa dos 20 milhões de euros pelo Wesley. O jogador, inclusive, esteve bem perto de se transferir para a Atalanta, da Itália, em agosto do ano passado, mas a negociação não foi para frente.
Recentemente, Wesley foi eleito o melhor lateral sub-23 fora da Europa em um estudo divulgado pelo Centro Internacional de Estudos de Esporte (CIES Football Observatory), que avalia os atletas ao redor do mundo. O jogador de 21 anos lidera a lista baseada no desempenho dos laterais esquerdos e direitos.
O defensor do Flamengo vem se destacando desde que Filipe Luís assumiu o comando do time no ano passado. Seu desempenho, inclusive, resultou na sua convocação para a seleção brasileira na última data-fifa.
