Szathmáry v Maďarsku působí druhou sezonu a do Miškovce přišel předloni z prvoligové pražské Slavie. Maďarské občanství získal díky předkům z otcovy strany. V české extralize má na kontě 11 utkání za Chomutov a dalších pět duelů v baráži o extraligu za Jihlavu. V první lize odehrál za Kadaň, Jihlavu, Třebíč, Porubu a Slavii 396 utkání.
Dědeček z matčiny strany Suchý, který zemřel v srpnu 2021 ve věku 76 let, má ve sbírce úspěchů stříbro z olympijských her v Grenoble 1968, z mistrovství světa čtyři stříbra (1965, 1966, 1971 a 1974) a dva bronzy (1969 a 1970). Člen Síně slávy Českého hokeje i Mezinárodní hokejové federace, jenž získal sedm titulů s Jihlavou, byl dvakrát nejlepším obráncem MS (1969 a 1970) a čtyřikrát v All Star týmu (1968 až 1971).

Maďaři se vrátili mezi elitu po sestupu v roce 2023 v Tampere. Loni v Bolzanu vyhráli skupinu B divize I a postoupili společně se Slovinskem. Loni pod kanadským koučem Donem MacAdamem se na tom podílelo čtrnáctka hráčů ze současného kádru.
Do šampionátu vstoupí Maďaři v sobotu od 16:20 proti Německu a v dalších utkáních základní skupiny B v Herningu narazí na Spojené státy americké, Kazachstán, Česko, Dánsko, Švýcarsko a Norsko.
