El caso del Manchester City explicado por un experto: “Pueden descender”

El megajuicio de los equipos de la Premier League contra el Manchester City por 115 presuntas infracciones financieras entre 2009 y 2018 está viendo la luz al final del túnel y la resolución se encuentra a pocas fechas de conocerse. 

La liga inglesa ha acusado al conjunto entrenado por Pep Guardiola de tres cosas principalmente: “Primero, de haber inflado artificialmente los ingresos del club. Han declarado haber recibido dinero de patrocinadores, cuando en realidad eran aportaciones del propietario. La segunda es que atacan contra el Manchester City porque no ha cooperado con la Premier League. La respuesta del City ha sido: ‘Un momento, todos estos cargos se basan en el hecho de que alguien hackeó nuestro sistema de correos electrónicos’. Y la tercera es que el City ha estado pagando a personas fuera de los libros contables“, afirma Kieran Maguire, experto en finanzas del fútbol.

Esta última recriminación de los equipos ingleses es sobre todo por el entrenador Roberto Mancini. “Estaba recibiendo alrededor de 2 millones de libras al año por parte del City, y además otros 2 millones de libras por parte de un club de fútbol en Abu Dabi por cuatro días de trabajo al año”, dice Kieran sobre los complementos de salarios no declarados al entrenador italiano.

Los citizens están en vilo y no es para menos, ya que se enfrentan a sanciones que le podrían dejar muy tocados. “Las sanciones pueden ir desde multas económicas hasta sanciones deportivas, como deducciones de puntos, descenso de categoría o la retirada de títulos. Todas esas opciones están dentro del alcance de lo que puede hacer la Premier League“, comenta Dam Plumley, también experto en finanzas del deporte ‘rey’.

No obstante, esto le está costando ya un gran esfuerzo económico al City al pagar todos los costes. Dependerá del resultado si le sale a pagar o no. “Se estima que el costo legal y comercial para ambas partes superará los 100 millones de libras. Ese dinero tendrá que salir del bolsillo de alguien. Si el City pierde, saldrá del suyo. Si el City gana, serán los demás clubes de la Premier League quienes tendrán que pagar”, finaliza Maguire.
