Girona head coach Michel has been hospitalised due to a health issue.
The Catalan club confirmed in a statement on Friday that the 49-year-old would not be involved in Saturday’s La Liga match at home to Villarreal.
“He is under medical observation as a precaution and is progressing favorably,” Girona said. “He is receiving appropriate care, and we hope for his recovery in the coming days.”
Michel also posted on Friday morning to thank the doctors for their “care and professionalism” and said that it was upon their advice that he was taking a “few days off to recover”.

“I’m feeling well, under medical observation, and I’m already counting the days until I can return to work and continue fighting for the remainder of the season,” said Michel, who added he would be in contact with his coaching team over the coming days.
Michel, who previously coached Rayo Vallecano and Huesca, led Girona to La Liga promotion in 2022 and two years later oversaw their first-ever qualification for European football as they reached the Champions League with a top-four finish.
This season has been more challenging for Girona, who are 15th in La Liga — six points above the relegation zone with four matches remaining. They finished 33rd of 36 teams in the Champions League league phase, winning only one of their eight fixtures.
