La segunda desconexión del Madrid llegaría en Champions tras la primera derrota de la temporada frente al Lille. Los de Carlo regresarían a su competición sin entender demasiado cómo funcionaba el nuevo formato… y en cuatro minutos se llevaría el primer golpe de realidad tras aprovechar el Borussia Dortmund para sacudir el Bernabéu. El minuto 30 fue el desencadenante de todas las desgracias del Madrid (errores defensivos, falta de contundencia y problemas en la elaboración de la jugada) con los goles de Malen y Gittens (34′) antes de que el Madrid despertase de la pesadilla con una remontada de altura. Sin embargo, esta temporada no ha sido la de los milagros.
El primer golpe del Barça… tras 3 minutos fatídicos
Cuatro días después, el Barcelona asestaría la primera estocada de las tres heridas abiertas que llevan los jugadores blancos. Tras una primera parte en la que el Madrid se mereció más, los de Flick golpearon con dureza al regresar del vestuario con dos goles de Lewandowski en tres minutos fatídicos tras los errores defensivos del Madrid. Una desconexión que apagó por completo al Madrid y que dejaría por el camino la primera derrota en el Clásico (0-4)… hasta que llegó el segundo enfrentamiento.

Después llegaría la derrota frente al Betis (2-1), que demostró un punto más de intensidad y gracia y que casi se marcha al vestuario con un castigo aún más grande.
Con la Liga en juego y otra vez en el Bernabéu, el Madrid volvería a cometer otro error que cerca estuvo de costarle caro. Dos goles del Leganés (33′ y 41′) obligaron al club blanco a remontar para seguir en la pelea. En las semifinales de Copa, tras el 0-1 logrado en el Reale Arena, el Madrid permitiría entrar en la eliminatoria a los de Imanol tras conceder tres goles (72′, 80′ y 93′) al final del partido que acabaría condenando, sin que ellos lo supiesen, el futuro del Madrid con tres derrotas en los siguientes cuatro partidos.
El Celta, último rival en ‘colarse’
Así las cosas, la cuenta de incomprensibles desconexiones alcanzaría su cota más alta de peligrosidad en el Emirates. El primer gol de falta de Declan Rice (58′) sumergió al Madrid en la tristeza absoluta… y del 70′ al 75′ llegaría una sentencia que terminaría siendo insalvable hasta para el club de los milagros europeos. La más dura de todas, pero no la última. Así lo hizo saber Valverde tras otra noche de desesperación blanca en la que permitieron entrar a otro rival a un partido que no debería haber acabado así. Un aviso antes de la última oportunidad para tratar de salvar una temporada en la que se buscaba lograr el primer septete de la historia del deporte.
